OnePlus 10 Pro global launch confirmed: Here's when it's coming - - Android Authority

TL;DR

  • The OnePlus 10 Pro will launch in North America, Europe, and India at the end of March.
  • OnePlus didn’t launch it outside of China back in January because of software development issues.
  • The phone won’t debut the previously announced unified OS.

OnePlus has finally set a timeline for the global launch of its first 2022 flagship — the OnePlus 10 Pro. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 phone will hit North America, Europe, and India at the end of March.

According to the company, the OnePlus 10 Pro is its fastest-selling phone in China. The device launched on OnePlus’ home turf back in January, and as per the firm, it raked in 100 million Yuan (a little over ~$15 million) in its first and second open sales.

If you’re wondering why OnePlus didn’t launch the phone globally earlier, the company has offered an explanation. CEO Pete Lau said during a media roundtable that software development for global markets takes longer because of factors like carrier compliance. Lau promised that the company would work at solving this issue in the future and shorten the gap between launches in China and the rest of the world.

New software incoming?

On the software front, the OnePlus 10 Pro will feature Oxygen OS 12.1 out of the box. If you were hoping to experience the “unified OS” OnePlus previously announced, you should know that the company has decided to ditch those plans. Oxygen OS is here to stay, at least on the global models of OnePlus phones.

Additionally, OnePlus announced that it’s in the process of developing Oxygen OS 13. Given that OnePlus has a three-year update policy for most of its recent flagships, the 10 Pro should be jumping to the new Oxygen OS version sometime later this year.

It’s worth noting that the OnePlus 10 Pro is the only flagship that the company will launch next month. There are no plans of announcing a vanilla OnePlus 10 just yet.

OnePlus roadmap in 2022: OnePlus 10 Pro launch, single codebase for ColorOS and OxygenOS and more - Times of India

OnePlus has announced its roadmap for the sidelines of Mobile World Congress 2022. In an interaction, Pete Lau, founder of OnePlus and Chief Product Officer of Oppo; Chris Shu, vice president, head of product strategy and cooperation of OnePlus and Oppo; and Gary Chen head of OS Product; spoke about the company's plans for the year. Pete termed 2021 as the most successful year in the OnePlus brand's history. "A key turning point for the OnePlus brand last year was our integration with Oppo. OnePlus is now an independent sub-brand of Oppo, enjoying a symbiotic relationship where the two brands empower each other in different ways," added Pete. Here's all that the company says will be the key focus areas of 2022 and more.
OnePlus 10 Pro launch
OnePlus says that the company has been off to a strong start with the launch of the OnePlus 10 Pro in China. The phone is said to be OnePlus' fastest-selling smartphone on several Chinese e-commerce platforms. OnePlus 10 Pro will launch in North America, India and Europe by the end of March 2022.
New retail model in India
OnePlus will debut a new retail model in India in 2022. The new retail model aims to increase the synergy between the company's online and offline sales systems. "This new model will allow our customers in India to order a product online and immediately pick-up said product in a retail store and enjoy the service offered by our offline channels – such as having a OnePlus store member set up the product for you. This will not only allow customers in India to get OnePlus devices faster, but we are confident it will increase the satisfaction for OnePlus products across the board," says the company.
Expand into new markets
OnePlus' key markets are India, US, Europe and China. In 2022, OnePlus plans to explore new markets. The company will expand its product lineup in Mexico and Canada, launching products across a range of price points. OnePlus entered Mexico in 2020, this year it plans to enter South America. The company further added that it will continue to expand its presence in Asia, North Africa and the Middle East.
OnePlus’ successful partnership with legendary camera manufacturer Hasselblad
In 2021, OnePlus announced its partnership with camera manufacturer Hasselblad with OnePlus 9 series phones. The company says that the tie-up has paved the way for Oppo to elevate the strategic partnership and enhance the value of products from both brands. Similarly, OnePlus will get access to Oppo's R&D resources and technologies that users will see in future OnePlus devices.
Focus to go beyond the camera, include improvements to charging and performance
The company said that in 2021, it focused on building a "truly premium camera experience". This year, it is expanding that focus beyond the camera to also include improvements to charging and performance. "Performance and charging form two fundamental pillars of the OnePlus fast and smooth experience, both of which have consistently been a strength of the OnePlus products and you have consistently championed the importance of both," says the company. OnePlus here plans to gain from its integration with Oppo. "Integration with Oppo has provided OnePlus with access to an array of innovative technologies for both performance and charging that will dramatically improve the functionality of future OnePlus devices," adds the company.
OxygenOS and ColorOS will continue to be developed on the same codebase
As confirmed before, OxygenOS and ColorOS will remain independent brand properties. The company says that this course was taken in accordance with feedback from its community. However, OxygenOS and ColorOS will continue to be developed on the same codebase as that, as per the company, will allow for faster updates and better build quality.

Samsung Galaxy A03 launched with a 48 megapixel camera - India Today

Samsung has unveiled its new Galaxy A-series smartphone in India. The company has unveiled the Galaxy A03 and it arrives as the first smartphone of the 2022 range of Galaxy A-series smartphones.

The device has already been listed on Samsung’s India website, and it seems like there’s only one RAM/storage combination for India: 3GB RAM with 32GB storage.

However, it would also be available from retail stores in a 4GB RAM with 64GB internal storage configuration. The entry-level model goes for INR 10,499, while the upper one is priced at INR 11,999.

The Samsung Galaxy A03 comes with a 6.5-inch TFT display with 720 x 1,600 pixels that account for an HD+ resolution. The display is built on a 20:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the Galaxy A03 comes with a Unisoc T606 chipset with a maximum clock speed of 1.6GHz.

The Samsung Galaxy A03 sports a dual camera setup that includes a 48-megapixel primary shooter, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Up front, the Samsung Galaxy A03 comes with a 5-megapixel selfie snapper. The Galaxy A03 offers the Smart Selfie Angle feature, allowing users to automatically click a wide-angle selfie whenever the smartphone detects multiple faces in the frame.

The smartphone comes with a 5000 mAh battery and runs on Android 11-based One UI 3.1 out of the box.

Other features include up to 1TB microSD expansion, 3.5mm headphone jack, Dolby Atmos equalizer, WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0. The smartphone supports Dolby Atmos for wired and wireless headsets.

There is no mention of fast charging, so we can conclude that it does not come with any kind of rapid charging. It probably gets a maximum rate of 10W.

Chinese phone brands are carrying the torch for Europe’s biggest mobile show - The Verge

Next week sees Mobile World Congress return to Barcelona, two years after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the world’s biggest mobile phone trade show, and one year after the show took place without many of its largest exhibitors in attendance. Not everyone is making a return to this year’s in-person event (Sony, Lenovo, and some media outlets including The Verge aren’t attending) but it almost feels like the show is back to full strength.

But it’s also an event that’s going to show off exactly how much the smartphone industry has shifted in recent years. As it stands, all the show’s biggest hardware announcements appear likely to come from Chinese brands like Oppo, Honor, TCL, Xiaomi-sub-brand Poco, and Huawei, rather than brands from Europe, America, or even another Asian country like South Korea.

Honor, for example, is planning to announce the Magic 4 series at the show, marking its first Western flagship smartphone launch since splitting with former parent company Huawei. Although the company released the mid-range Honor 50 globally last year, the Magic 4 is rumored to be using Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, making it a direct (and likely affordable) competitor to the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy S22 or the OnePlus 10.

Meanwhile Oppo has said it plans to announce “several high-end flagship products” alongside augmented reality and 5G “R&D achievements” at this year’s MWC. The company is fresh off the heels of announcing its latest flagship smartphone, the Find X5 Pro, last Thursday, but still intends to use this year’s show to make major announcements.

Or what about TCL, which says it plans to reveal more entries in its 30 Series of smartphones after announcing the first two entries, the 30 XE 5G and 30 V5G, at CES earlier this year. Or Poco, the Xiaomi sub-brand that plans to announce the Poco X4 Pro 5G and Poco M4 Pro at an event on February 28th. Oppo spinoff Realme is promising to announce the “world’s fastest smartphone charging technology” at this year’s show, which for those keeping track would need to be faster than the 125W UltraDart technology it announced a couple of years ago.

In contrast, major phone brands outside of China have rarely shown much interest in using MWC for major consumer-facing announcements. Google has never launched a smartphone at MWC, and Apple takes the show about as seriously as it takes every other major trade show, which is to say “not very.” But even Samsung, which used MWC to announce its flagship Galaxy S smartphone as recently as 2018, appears to be focusing its MWC launches this year on a humble laptop. Only HMD, the Finland-headquartered company that now produces Nokia-branded smartphones, has routinely timed its major product announcements with the Barcelona trade show.

MWC’s increasing focus on Chinese companies doesn’t mean it’s losing relevance, because these phones are more popular with customers all around the world than ever. As of last year, IDC reports that three out of the top five most popular smartphone brands worldwide — Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo — are headquartered in China, with the number one and two spots being taken up by Samsung and Apple. It’s a similar situation in Europe specifically, where Counterpoint Research reports that seven out of the top ten most popular smartphone brands are headquartered in China.

Instead, I think the trend is an interesting display of who has the most to gain from timing a big announcement to coincide with a crowded trade show. It’s not companies like Samsung and Apple, which have the kind of global physical presence that allows them to host big launches separately from major trade shows. But for a company like Honor or TCL, a show like MWC looks like an invaluable way to get a lot of press into one place to show off your wares.

The news around MWC 2022 will almost certainly be dominated by Chinese tech brands, who are doing the best out of anyone at keeping the buzz around Europe’s biggest mobile show alive. But the more you look at it, it starts to look like good logistics.

iPhone SE 3 likely to be priced at $300; touted as most affordable 5G iPhone: Reports - Republic World

Over the past few days, the speculations about Apple hosting a launch event on March 8, 2022, have been getting stronger. Most recently, a publication has hinted at the price of the upcoming iPhone SE 3 or iPhone SE 5G. Although the credibility of sources mentioned in the report is not known, the expected price of the iPhone SE 3 as mentioned in the report is unbelievable. Keep reading to know more about the report.

An Investor's Business Daily report mentions that Apple's upcoming iPhone SE 3 could be priced at $300, reported via the sources of the analyst John Donovan at Loop Capital Markets. The report covers the topic from a business point of view and mentions that such a low price of the iPhone SE 5G will drive enormous sales for the company, hence causing a rise in the prices of its shares.

iPhone SE 5G pricing expected to be affordable

Though it seems highly unlikely for Apple to launch a 5G iPhone at such a price, the iPhone SE 5G should be affordable in general. The current generation of iPhone SE launched in 2020 is available for $399 on Apple's official website and the most affordable 5G iPhone by the company, the iPhone 12 MIni, is priced at $599. Given that Apple's 14 Bionic and A15 Bionic are the only two chipsets that enable 5G connectivity on a device, the possibility of an iPhone with these chips at an even lower price seems unlikely.

Compiling information from multiple reports and leaks on the internet, the possibility of Apple launching a new budget iPhone is very strong. While the budget iPhone has been given multiple names like iPhone SE 3, iPhone SE+ 5G and iPhone SE 2022, it is most likely to come in a similar form factor as the previous iPhone SE that was launched in 2020. Although, the smartphone was previously reported to have an iPhone XR like display, running from edge to edge. Now, it seems like the iPhone SE 3 will sport a similar form factor as seen in the past, along with refreshed internals that might include the A14 or the A15 bionic chipset.

Apple to give Face ID repair on iPhone without replacing the smartphone - Zee News

New Delhi: Face ID will soon be repairable on iPhones without the need to replace the device itself. This service will be offered in Apple stores and through Apple Authorized Service Providers. According to Macrumors, this service will be available to iPhone Xs and subsequent models. According to the rumour, Apple authorised service stores will soon begin receiving a True Depth service part that includes the Face ID components and front camera modules. As a result, technicians will have the option of replacing the Face ID system on iPhones rather than replacing it.

An internal memo obtained by Macrumors from a credible source provided the facts. According to the memo, Apple wants to lower its carbon footprint by reducing the amount of whole-unit replacements. There is currently no information on the replacement costs. However, same-unit Face ID fixes are expected to be less expensive than whole-unit replacement.

If you recall, Face ID was first introduced on the iPhone X in 2017. However, the device may not receive the recently announced Face ID replacement feature. According to the memo, the Face ID replacement would be accessible for iPhone XS and later models.

An Apple Service Toolkit diagnostic tool will assist in determining when a same-unit Face ID repair is preferable to a whole-unit replacement or a "iPhone Rear System" repair. There is no clarity regarding when the programme will be implemented. However, we have discovered that the technicians will be trained and given documentation at a later period.

Apple introduced the self-repair service a few months ago. Apple will provide instructions to the consumer to help them repair their device at home, as well as sell the components and tools required for the operation, through this service. Apple claims that if customers return discarded parts after repairing their iPhones, they will earn recycling credit.

Oppo Find X5 series goes official with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, imaging-dedicated MariSilicon X chip - 9to5Google

Oppo has today announced its latest flagship smartphone series, the Find X5 and Find X5 Pro. Both phones deliver top-tier specs and a new era of imaging for Oppo; here’s what you need to know.

The biggest focus of the Find X5 Pro compared to past entries in the series is its camera array, which includes a 50MP primary camera, 50MP 110-degree ultrawide camera, and 13MP telephoto camera with a 52mm equivalent lens for 2x optical zoom. The cameras are all held in a module that just barely bumps out of the back of the phone, with the smooth ceramic design curving up to meet that extension. The standard Find X5 has an identical camera setup, right down to the 32MP selfie camera. On both models, the neat microscope camera from the Find X3 Pro is gone.

But the real story is found under the hood, where the Oppo Find X5 series debuts the MariSilicon X chip that the company announced last year. That chip allows Oppo to take image and video processing to a new level. Oppo says the chip can improve low-light HDR in big ways, especially when it comes to video recording. A “4K Ultra Night Mode” lives in the Camera app for that purpose. If MariSilicon X delivers even a fraction of the added focus that Google’s Visual Core chip brought to Pixels, it’s sure to be a great addition.

Looking at the rest of the spec sheet, the Oppo Find X5 series is a flagship duo across the board. The standard Find X5 has a 6.55-inch 1080p 120Hz OLED display, Snapdragon 888 processor, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, a 4,800 mAh battery, and fast charging of 80W wired and 30W wireless.

Meanwhile, the Find X5 Pro takes things up a notch with a 6.7-inch 1440p 120Hz OLED display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and a 5,000 mAh battery with the same wired charging spec, but 50W wireless charging too. Both phones ship with Android 12, Gorilla Glass Victus to protect the front display and its fingerprint sensor, and black or white colors. The Pro is also the only one with a formal IP68 water-resistance rating.

The last notable difference is in the hardware, where the standard Find X5 has a glass back, but the Pro has a ceramic rear panel. After having a chance to use the Find X5 Pro in person, I immediately fell in love with the feel of the hardware on the Find X5 Pro.

Oppo will start selling the Find X5 series in Europe on March 14, with a starting price of €999 for the Find X5 and €1,299 for the Find X5 Pro. Pre-orders start today, and Oppo is also launching a new version of its Enco X earbuds alongside these phones.
