Instagram tests making all video posts Reels - GSMArena.com news - GSMArena.com

Instagram’s efforts to compete with TikTok are growing with the blogging platform’s latest move. As per a screenshot posted to Twitter by Matt Navarra, Instagram has begun testing making every video posted to Instagram a Reel so it may reach a larger audience across Instagram and Facebook.

In an email to TechCrunch, a Meta spokesperson writes: “We’re testing this feature as part of our efforts to simplify and improve the video experience on Instagram.” Instagram Reels first launched in the US in August 2020 and sees immense engagement with the Reels’ short video format.

The screenshot shows that “Video posts are now shared as reels.” Instagram hopes that by nudging all video towards Reels, videos should see more engagement, video effects are available, music can be added, and videos can be remixed into new Reels.

The change is being tested and its permanence is not clear. It is also not clear what will happen to existing videos published to Instagram, and whether you’ll still be allowed to publish videos up to 10 minutes (or up to 60 minutes on verified accounts).

Nearly a year ago, head of Instagram Adam Mosseri said that Instagram was “no longer a photo-sharing app” as the company has shifted its focus towards “creators, video, shopping, and messaging”.

Nothing phone (1) may skip in-box charger and start at €470, suggest leaks - The Indian Express

The Nothing phone (1) is a week away from launch and is currently one of the most awaited devices out there. While a number of details about the phone are now beginning to surface on the web, including the price and the specifications, one aspect that has remained a mystery is the presence of an in-box charger with the phone (1).

Multiple reports from various tipsters who have had a good track record in the past have suggested that the Nothing phone (1) will not bundle a charger with the phone, while others have said otherwise.

A new report now by tipster Abhishek Yadav suggests that the Nothing phone 1 will not come with an in-box charger.

As you can see in the tweet, the Nothing phone (1) will reportedly only come with a screen protector and a USB cable in the box. We suggest you take this information with a grain of salt though. We should know for sure.

Nothing phone (1): What we know so far

The Nothing phone (1)’s complete specifications were just leaked on Twitter by tipster Abhishek Yadav. The leaks suggest that the phone will come with a 6.55-inch OLED display with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The phone will also feature Gorilla Glass protection on the front and back.

The device will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ chipset, which Nothing founder Carl Pei had previously confirmed, and will come with a 50MP dual camera setup on the back which will support 4K recording up to 60fps.

The phone will also come with Android 12-based NothingOS and no bloatware apps. Other features include the Glyph Interface lights, symmetrical bezels and an aluminium frame.

Nothing phone (1): Pricing

Another leak by tipster Mukul Sharma on Twitter has also revealed what appears to be the European pricing of the Nothing phone (1). The leak suggests that the phone will start at €469.99 for the 8GB/128GB variant and €499.99 for the 8GB/256GB variant, while a top-end 12GB/256GB variant will come in at €549.99.

These prices suggest that the Nothing phone (1) will start at about Rs 38,773 by direct conversion. However, this is rarely the case as the pricing for the device is likely to be different for different regions. The tipster also suggested that the Indian pricing is likely lower than the above mentioned European prices.

Xiaomi shares Xiaomi 12S series camera samples with Xiaomi 12S Ultra to feature new flagship Sony IMX989 sensor - Notebookcheck.net

It remains to be seen what the IMX989 is capable of; neither Sony nor Xiaomi have revealed any other details about the sensor at this stage. Xiaomi has shared several sample photos from the 'Xiaomi 12S series' though, embedded below. Potentially taken using the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, we would not be surprised if Xiaomi edited these using professional software before uploading them to Weibo. Still, the results look impressive, and it will be interesting to see what retail Xiaomi 12S Ultra units can achieve when they land next month.

Incidentally, Xiaomi has also shared a video on Weibo in which representatives from it and Leica discuss their cooperation together. Re-uploaded to YouTube by ourselves and embedded below, the video is only just over 2 minutes long. Ultimately, the video serves as promotional material for the Xiaomi 12S series, but it still provides a few insights into what is to come with the likes of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra.

Oppo Reno 8 coming in three flavours to India: Expected price, specs and more - HT Tech

Oppo Reno 8 series is set to launch in India soon with three models this time. Here are all the details.

Oppo Reno 8 series debuted globally a while ago and Oppo is now planning to bring the entire series of smartphones to India. Based on the rumours, the Reno 8 series will come to India with three models, which is a change from the usual two. That means Oppo could bring the entry-level Reno 8, a beefed up Reno 8 Pro, and a maxed out Reno 8 Pro+ to our shores. The Reno 8 series launch date also gets leaked, which is said to be July 18, 2022. Oppo is yet to announce anything officially on this front.

The report from MySmartPrice Hindi also says that the Reno 8 series will be announced via an online only event owing to rising COVID cases in the country. The company has mostly launched its products lately via the online events only. There is no hint on the prices but we expect Oppo to keep similar pricing to the Reno 7 series, which was launched in India back in February 2022.

Oppo Reno 8 series coming to India soon

The Oppo Reno 8 series could help Oppo step up in the premium smartphone space. So far, the Reno series has never seen the Plus variant in India. The Reno 7 and Reno 7 Pro complete the Reno 7 series, and it was the same with the Reno 6 series. Note that Oppo does not bring its Find X series of flagships to India.

The Reno 8 series starts with the Reno 8, which offers the base level specs. The phone features a 6.4-inch 90Hz AMOLED display, a Dimensity 1300 chipset, up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, a 4500mAh battery with 80W fast charging, and a triple rear camera setup consisting of 50MP main camera, 2MP macro, and a 2MP depth camera. The front camera is a 32MP unit.

The Reno 8 Pro, on the other hand, offers a 6.6-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, a faster Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset, and a triple camera setup consisting of a 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP macro camera. The front camera has a 32MP sensor.

The Oppo Reno 8 Pro+ is largely similar to the Reno 8 Pro, except for a centre-mounted punch-hole camera, and a MariSilicon NPU chip for the camera.

Valorant Is Planning to Monitor Voice Chat, Tests Begin Next Month - IGN

Riot Games will begin testing its voice chat monitoring technology in Valorant next month as part of a wider strategy to combat "disruptive behaviour" in its games.

In a blog post, Riot announced its voice evaluation system - eventually intended to identify community behavioural violations such as the use of abusive language - would begin testing on July 13.

Valorant players will have their voice chat analyzed by the technology but, at this stage, it won't be judged for appropriateness. Riot said this testing period, only taking place in North America and in English, will be used "to help train our language models and get the tech in a good enough place for a beta launch later this year".

Only once the technology is working effectively will Riot launch the official beta and begin evaluating players' voice chat following reports of disruptive behaviour. "This is brand new tech and there will for sure be growing pains," it said. "But the promise of a safer and more inclusive environment for everyone who chooses to play is worth it."

While Riot has only announced this specific voice chat monitoring roadmap for Valorant so far, it made clear in the blog post that it plans to bring the service to its other games (such as League of Legends) too.

In our 9/10 review, IGN said: "Valorant is a clever tactical hero shooter that’s plenty deep, and a lot of fun to master."

Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelancer who occasionally remembers to tweet @thelastdinsdale. He'll talk about The Witcher all day.

How Microsoft is planning to notify Windows 8.1 users about the January 2023 end-of-support date - Times of India

Microsoft released the Windows 8.1 version as the successor of the Windows 8 operating system in 2013. The company marked the end of "Mainstream Support" of Windows 8.1 in January 2018. However, Windows 8.1 got an additional five years of "Extended Support" under Microsoft’s lifecycle support policy. During this period, users got — and will continue to get — regular security updates, possible software updates and technical assistance.
The software giant has recently announced that it will stop supporting Windows 8.1 from January 10, 2023. Moreover, the company is now planning to start notifying users about the approaching end-of-support date in July, reports ZDNet. Earlier, the company has used such notifications to get users on older versions of Windows to upgrade to more recent versions.
How will Microsoft notify users about the end-of-support date
Microsoft has mentioned that Windows 8.1 users will start seeing a notification from the company that will prompt them to update their Windows version to the one it still supports. From July, users will start receiving the notification where they will get three clickable options named -- "Learn more," "Remind me later," or "Remind me after the end-of-support date" which will continue till January 2023.
Alternatives for Windows 8.1 users
Unlike Windows 7, Microsoft won’t offer Extended Security Updates for Windows 8.1, the company confirms. This means Windows 8.1 users will stop receiving security updates after January 10, 2023. However, Microsoft is urging users to switch to either Windows 10 or the latest Windows 11. It is important to note that the company will support Windows 10 and its users will continue receiving security updates till October 14, 2025.

Special Edition Nothing Phone (1) up for auction! Also see its cool GLYPH interface - HT Tech

Nothing Phone (1) limited edition goes up for auction on StockX, with buyers already bidding over $2000. Check out all the details regarding this phone.

Nothing Phone (1) is barely a few weeks away from its global launch but the company has already revealed how the phone looks and what it will offer. After revealing the phone’s design last week, Nothing announced it would put up the first 100 units of the Nothing Phone (1) on auction at StockX, the proceeds of which will go towards a community managed fund. That auction hs started today and that means, you can buy the Nothing Phone (1) if you have got the cash. The bidding is already up on StockX.

While Nothing started the bidding at a price $156, it rose up fast and at the moment, sits at a price of $2651. In fact, most of the units have been sold already. These units will have a special serial number marked on their side, showing which of the 100 first devices you own. The rest of the design and phone (seemingly) remains unchanged. Nothing is yet to reveal the retail price of the Phone (1) but we only have to wait until July 12 to know that.

ALSO READ: Nothing phone (1) preorders may start SOON! This is how much it will cost

Nothing Phone (1) design revealed too

In a separate video from YouTube creator Marques Brownlee, the Nothing Phone (1) is shown in action. And this time, we also get to see the front of the phone, which as speculated is no different than a Google Pixel 5. The display has uniform and slim bezels, with a small camera cutout sitting on the side. There seems to be no fingerprint scanner on the display visible, which means Nothing could be using a power key-mounted solution.

The biggest attention hog on this phone though is the Glyph Interface feature – a fancy arrangement of LED lights spread all across the rear of the phone. These LED lights are used for notifications and all the usual stuff but they also light up in patterns depending on the ringtone selected. It glows only white in the video and we assume that is the only colour users could see.

Sadly, Brownlee does not reveal what lies inside the Nothing Phone (1), ither that the Nothing OS in action. Rumours suggest that phone will use the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip, a 120Hz AMOLED display, a dual rear camera system with a 50MP main camera, a 4500mAh battery with support for 45W fast charging and regular wireless charging.

Mediatek Dimensity 9000 Plus launched: A slightly better flagship SoC - Android Authority

MediaTek Dimensity logo

Kris Carlon / Android Authority

TL;DR

  • Mediatek has launched the Dimensity 9000 Plus SoC.
  • It differs from the standard chipset by offering a 5% clock speed boost for the Cortex-X2 CPU core and GPU.
  • Phones with the chipset are expected in Q3 2022.

The upgraded processor differs from the Dimensity 9000 by offering a 5% clock speed increase for the Cortex-X2 heavyweight core, going from 3.05GHz to 3.2GHz. Mediatek adds that the GPU has also received a 5% clock speed boost (and a graphical performance improvement of over 10%), although it refused to disclose specific clock speeds for both the existing Dimensity 9000 and the new Plus model.

Otherwise, this is the same chipset as the standard Dimensity 9000. That means you’re getting a 4nm TSMC design as well as an octacore CPU consisting of one Cortex-X2 core, three Cortex-A710 cores, and four Cortex-A510 cores.

You’re also getting familiar core features like a Mali-G710 MC10 GPU, an integrated 5G modem topping out at 7Gbps (albeit lacking mmWave connectivity), and a fifth-generation APU for machine learning.

Will we actually see it in global markets?

Other specs worth knowing include 320MP single-camera support, AV1 decoding support, simultaneous triple camera HDR video recording, 8K/24fps recording, a 144Hz refresh rate at WQHD+ resolution, 180Hz refresh rate at FHD+ resolution, Bluetooth 5.3, and Wi-Fi 6E.

Mediatek says phones with the Dimensity 9000 Plus are set to launch in Q3 2022. Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi all launched Dimensity 9000 phones earlier this year, but only the Vivo device (the Vivo X80) was available outside China. So we wonder whether any Dimensity 9000 Plus phones will be available in global markets, especially with the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 being a more significant mid-year refresh for Qualcomm than we’ve seen in years.

iPhone password problem? You just can't afford not to know this - HT Tech

Not being able to unlock your iPhone? If you forget your password or it is showing as incorrect, then here is how you can unlock your Apple iPhone.

Passwords are meant to protect your smartphones, apps, data and much more. All the iPhones and android phones now-a-days have different locking functionalities. This includes face unlock, fingerprint impression or even a simple password. Even if you do keep a biometric unlock system, you still need to have a password or passcode for your phone. But what will happen if you forget the password or passcode? If you are an iPhone user and it shows an incorrect passcode then it is time to worry, but not too much. Because, you see, there are others ways in which you can unlock and iPhone. Do remember that it will require extreme measures. Check it out here.

According to Apple's support page, if you can't remember your passcode, you need to use a computer to put your iPhone in recovery mode. However, it is important to note that this process deletes your data and settings, including your passcode, giving you access to set up your iPhone again. After you erase your iPhone, you can restore your data and settings from backup. And if you did not take the backup earlier, you can set up your iPhone as a new device and then download any data that you have in iCloud. Here is how to get your iPhone into recovery mode so you can erase it and set it up again.

Apple iPhone: How to put iPhone recovery mode on

Step 1:

Make sure that you have a computer (Mac or PC): If you are using a PC, make sure that it has Windows 8 or later, and that iTunes is installed. You also need the cable that came with your iPhone, or another compatible cable, to connect your iPhone to the computer. If you do not have a computer and you cannot borrow one, you need to go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.

Step 2:

Turn off your iPhone: Unplug your iPhone from the computer if it is connected. Turn off your iPhone using the method for your iPhone model.

Step 3:

Put your iPhone in recovery mode: If you have an iPhone X or later, iPhone SE (2nd generation), iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus then use the Side button. iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus use the Volume down button. iPhone SE (1st generation), and iPhone 6s and earlier use the Home button.

Step 4:

You need to Press and hold the correct button for your iPhone while immediately connecting your iPhone to the computer. Do not let go of the button and keep on holding it until you see the recovery mode screen on your iPhone, then let go.

Step 5:

It can be noted here that if you see the passcode screen, you need to turn off your iPhone and start again.

Step 6:

Restore your iPhone: Locate your iPhone in the Finder or in iTunes on the computer that it is connected to. Choose Restore when you see the option to Restore or Update. Your computer downloads software for your iPhone and begins the restore process. If the download takes more than 15 minutes and your device exits the recovery mode screen, let the download finish, then turn off your iPhone and start again.

Step 7:

Wait for the process to finish. Disconnect your iPhone from the computer, then set up and now, you can use your iPhone again.

How to Downgrade from iOS 16 to iOS 15 Without Losing Data - Beebom

Announced at WWDC 2022, iOS 16 brings a plethora of cool and long-requested features to iPhone users. Be it the fully customizable lock screen, native Apple Fitness app, or haptic feedback on the keyboard, the latest iteration of iOS has something in store for everyone. That’s probably why you installed iOS 16 developer beta on your iPhone to explore the new features. However, some bugs and crashes in the beta software are hampering your experience, forcing you to look for a way to downgrade from iOS 16 beta to iOS 15 on your iPhone. Fret not, as we have created this guide to help you roll back to iOS 15 from iOS 16 without losing any data.

Downgrade from iOS 16 to iOS 15 on iPhone (2022)

Table of Contents

Things to Keep in Mind Before Downgrading to iOS 15

Before you start the process to install iOS 15 and remove the iOS 16 beta from your supported iPhone model, remember to check off these points:

  1. If you backed up your iPhone before installing the iOS 16 developer beta, you can easily remove the ‌‌iOS 16 software beta profile and restore the backup. There will be no data loss. Now, even if you forgot to back up your device, you can still move back to iOS 15 from iOS 16. However, you will not be able to restore your iPhone to its original state and will lose your data.
  2. Bear in mind that if you installed watchOS 9 beta on your Apple Watch, you will no longer be able to use your watch with your ‌‌iPhone‌‌ once you downgrade to iOS 15. The company still does not offer a way to downgrade an Apple Watch to a previous version of watchOS manually. Hence, if you want to remove ‌‌watchOS 9‌‌ developer beta, you will need to send your smartwatch to Apple.
  3. As always, make sure to back up your iPhone before downgrading from iOS 16 beta to iOS 15. While you cannot use the iOS 16 beta backup on a device running iOS 15, you will have the option to manually restore specific data if the need ever arrives.

Roll Back to iOS 15 from iOS 16 Using Recovery Mode

Recovery Mode has long been a reliable troubleshooting tool that allows you to diagnose and fix issues on your iPhone. Moreover, it also lets you wipe a software beta profile and downgrade from beta to the latest stable version of iOS. So, let’s see how it works:

1. First, use a USB-A to Lightning or USB-C to Lightning cable to connect your iPhone to your Mac or Windows PC.

2. Now, launch Finder (Mac) and iTunes (Free, Windows) on your computer.

How to Downgrade from iOS 16 to iOS 15 Without Losing Data

3. Next, put your iPhone into recovery mode. Press and quickly release the “Volume Up” button. Then, press and quickly release the “Volume Down” button. After that, hold down the power button until you see the recovery mode screen.

4. Once you do that, you will see a pop-up message reading, “There is a problem with the iPhone that requires it to be updated or restored” on your computer screen. From the pop-up, click “Restore” to erase your iPhone and install the latest public release of iOS 15, i.e iOS 15.5.

Restore your iPhone

5. Next, another pop-up will show up on the screen asking you to confirm the action. Click on “Restore and Update” to proceed.

Restore and update your iPhone

6. Finally, agree to Apple’s terms and conditions, and the Finder will start downloading the latest iOS 15.5 update files.

Agree to terms and conditions

7. That’s pretty much it! Now, you need to wait patiently until the restore process is complete. Once you have successfully restored your device, restore the most recent iOS 15 backup, which you made before installing the iOS 16 beta.

Downgrading iOS 16 to iOS 15

Downgrade Your iPad from iPadOS 16 to iPadOS 15

Even though we have focused on moving back to iOS 15 from iOS 16 in this guide, you can follow the same steps to downgrade from iPadOS 16 to iPadOS 15. Here’s how it goes:

  • Simply connect your iPad to your computer and open Finder (Mac) or iTunes (Windows).
  • Now, put your iPad into Recovery Mode. There are two different methods, depending on the model you own.
    • For iPad with Face ID: First, press and quickly release the volume up button. Then, press and quickly release the volume down button. After that, press and hold the power button until the Recovery Mode shows up on the screen.
    • For iPad with Home button: Press and hold the power (up top) and Home buttons simultaneously until you see the recovery screen.
  • Now, you would be prompted to restore your device on your Mac or Windows computer. Click Restore to erase your iPad and install the latest iPadOS 15 update. When your iPad has been restored, you can restore the backup you created before installing the iPadOS 16 beta.

Remove iOS 16 Beta Without Losing Data on iPhone

That’s pretty much all you have to do to get rid of iOS 16 beta and move back to the stable iOS 15 build. Ever since Apple rolled out the iOS 16 developer beta, we have been testing Apple’s latest OS update to explore the new features. Barring common issues like random freezing, app crashes, and battery drain, we haven’t noticed any major problems in the iOS 16 developer beta. So it’s more or less been a smooth ride until now. What about you? What’s your reason to downgrade back to iOS 15? Do let us know in the comments below.
