Apple's mixed-reality headset reportedly suffers another setback as optimism for the product dwindles - XDA Developers
We've heard it before, and we're hearing it again, as it's being reported that Apple will reportedly delay the release of its headset.
It looks like Apple has suffered another setback with its mixed-reality headset, as analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has chimed in, sharing that mass production for the product has been delayed. While it's unclear whether this device will make an appearance at Apple's upcoming WWDC set to take place on June 5, at the very least this new development will push back the release of the product by a few months. Kuo expects that the headset could release sometime in the third quarter of this year, but quantities of the product will be much lower.
For years, we've been hearing about Apple's next major product release, a mixed-reality headset that, according to various rumors and reports, would be like nothing we've seen before. While the enthusiasm and excitement has been relatively high surrounding the product, the company has never confirmed or even acknowledged the existence of this device, making it a bit of a mystery when it comes to its capabilities and looks. While we'd typically have hundreds of leaks leading up to an iPhone launch, we've yet to see one leaked product image or even render.
While the public's anticipation runs high, internally, it appears that Apple isn't all that confident with its unannounced device, with Kuo sharing that the team at Apple isn't "very optimistic" that the headset will be able to create an "iPhone moment" with what's currently in front of them in the Cupertino. It's unknown what exactly seems to be the problem, but earlier this month, there were reports that stated Apple's design team wanted to further delay the product, with Apple CEO Tim Cook overruling the decision and instead moving forward with plans for a release.

Apple sets June 5 start date for WWDC 2023 to debut iOS7 and more - SiliconANGLE News
Apple Inc. today announced that its annual Worldwide Developers Conference will run June 5-9 in an online format.
The company plans to detail new versions of its iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS operating systems at the event. Recent reports suggest that Apple’s long-rumored mixed reality headset could also make its debut.
Apple executives usually announce new products during a keynote address on the first day of WWDC. This year, the opening day will also see the company host an invite-only event for developers and students at its headquarters in Cupertino, California. The online edition of WWDC will offer access to technical sessions and labs.
One of the event’s main highlights will be the introduction of iOS 17. Last year, the European Union implemented a law called the Digital Markets Act that places new requirements on tech giants. It’s believed some of the most significant changes in iOS 17 will focus on making the operating system compliant with the law.
For EU users, Apple will reportedly add the ability to access app marketplaces other than its own App Store. Browser makers, meanwhile, will have more flexibility in how they build their software. To comply with the new EU rules, Apple is expected to remove the requirement that third-party iOS browsers use its WebKit rendering and JavaScript engine.
The company is reportedly readying other enhancements as well. Apple is expected to redesign iOS notification banners, as well as add more customization options to the lock screen.
The main highlight of WWDC 2023, however, may not be iOS 17 but rather Apple’s mixed reality headset. Sources told Bloomberg last month that the headset will make its debut at the event. The iPhone maker had originally planned to introduce the device earlier, but reportedly pushed back the launch date to fix certain hardware and software issues.
Apple’s upcoming headset is expected to provide both virtual reality and augmented reality features. The device is said to be powered by a new operating system, dubbed xrOS, with an interface similar to that of iOS. It will enable users to run existing iOS apps.
Reports suggest that the headset features two M2 systems-on-chip. The M2, which powers the latest MacBook Air, combines a central processing unit with a graphics card and other computing modules in an integrated package. It features 20 billion transistors, 25% more than Apple’s previous M1 laptop chip.
Apple’s mixed reality headset will reportedly be followed by a second-generation device in 2025. The latter device is said to feature less advanced silicon and a lower price tag. Additionally, Apple is reported to be developing a new Mac Pro workstation that runs on a faster version of its M2 chip.

WhatsApp will soon allow iPhone users to edit sent messages, details here - India Today
WhatsApp is developing a new feature which will soon allow users to edit any sent text message using the new edit message feature. Here are the details.
By Divya Bhati: WhatsApp regularly introduces new features and updates to enhance user privacy and improve their overall experience with the app. The most recent update includes a new app for WhatsApp for Windows desktop, new features for Groups and more. Now moving on to the next, WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new edit message feature which will give users the ability to edit the sent messages.
advertisement
According to Wabetainfo, WhatsApp is developing a new edit feature for future updates of the app. This feature will allow users to edit their sent messages in the chat and rectify or edit any information within the message instead of deleting the entire message or sending a new one with edits.
WhatsApp's upcoming edit message feature will enable users to make changes to any sent message within a 15-minute time frame. This feature will provide users with the ability to correct any mistakes or add more information to the original message. Unlike the existing delete feature that removes an entire message for everyone, this feature will be particularly useful for those who wish to edit only specific words.
Notably, once a message is edited, both the sender and receiver will see an " edited" label within the message bubble. Additionally, this feature will only be available on the latest WhatsApp version and will be limited to editing messages, rather than media captions. The feature is currently in development exclusively for iOS users, with plans to release it for beta testing soon. Users can expect to see this feature in future app updates.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp is also developing a new ' Video Message' feature for iOS users which will allow users to send 60 seconds short video notes just like how users send voice notes. Similar to the video note feature in Telegram, WhatsApp's video note feature will also allow users to record short videos by pushing the camera button and recording themselves or any videos for a limited timeframe.
Notably, the feature is not similar to WhatsApp's existing video recording feature, as users will not be able to forward or share any received video notes. However, WhatsApp will allow users to take a screenshot of video notes. Additionally, the video notes will also be en-to-end encrypted, meaning no third person will be able to access your video message apart from the sender and receiver.
In other news, Mark Zuckerberg recently launched an improved version of its WhatsApp for Windows app, which boasts faster performance and a mobile-like user interface. One of the key features of this upgrade is the ability for users to conduct group video calls with up to eight people, as well as audio calls with up to 32 participants. Furthermore, WhatsApp has introduced new controls for group management, enabling administrators to regulate who can join a group using group links.

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D is the upcoming 8-core Zen4 desktop processor equipped with 3D V-Cache. This is a third X3D SKU and as far as official word goes, the only Ryzen 7000 CPU that has not been released yet. It is among the most anticipated as well, mainly due to its unique design.
Unlike Ryzen 9 7950X3D and 7900X3D, this SKU has one 8-core chiplet. AMD opted to include an extra layer of 3D V-Cache only on one chiplet, which means that 12-core and 16-core processors have an uneven chiplet design. However, AMD came up with a software solution that prioritizes either the frequency or the cache. The 7800X3D does not require such algorithms because there is only one chiplet with the extra cache.
It is no secret that reviewers are already engaged in testing of this CPU. Eventually, some reviewers leave a trace of their work, in this case in a form of SiSoftware benchmark result. Tom’s Hardware were quick to compare the 7800X3D score to existing 7000 SKUs and last-gen 5800X3D, a true predecessor for the new part.
The Ryzen 7 7800X3D Zen4 SKU would be 37.3% faster than the 5800X3D Zen3 model when aggregated ‘Score’ is compared. A score of 395 GOPS sits right in-between Ryzen 7 7700X and 7700 non-X SKUs (both 8-core Zen4 desktop CPUs) according to the official ranking.

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D will offer the lowest CPU frequency out of all Ryzen 7000 SKUs, going up to 5.0 GHz. However, even in this leak, the processors boosts slightly above the these specs to 5.05 GHz. The X3D series may not support overclocking in a traditional form, but they do support Precision Boost Overdrive, which might explain a higher clock.
The 7800X3D is set to launch on April 6th at $449. That’s $112 more than 7700X SKU and even $20 more than 7900.

Microsoft apparently doesn’t want rivals like DuckDuckGo to use Bing search data in their AI tools as chatbot wars heat up - The Financial Express
Microsoft is intensifying its rivalry by demanding its competitors to stop using Bing’s search index to power their AI chatbots. According to a Bloomberg report, the Redmond-giant, without disclosing the names, has warned two Bing-powered search engines that it will prohibit their access to Microsoft’s search data in they use it to power their AI tools.
While Microsoft has not named in any company in particular, the company licenses out its Bing’s search data to several search engines like DuckDuckGo and Yahoo. According to the report, Microsoft feels that using their search data to train rival AI chatbots is a violation of the contract and the company holds all the rights to terminate the agreement in case it finds one violating it.
“We’ve been in touch with partners who are out of compliance as we continue to consistently enforce our terms across the board,” the company was quoted by Bloomberg adding that it will continue “to work with them directly and provide any information needed to find a path forward.”
While it is unclear which companies have exactly been warned by Microsoft, The Verge highlights that search engines DuckDuckGo and You.com have launched AI products of their own. DuckDuckGo’s DuckAssist is a new AI tool that compliments its search engine’s Instant Answer feature by pulling small AI-generated content from web. You.com has YouWrite- an AI writing assistant to help write content, blogs, emails and more. With AI war heating up, it is understandable that Microsoft would want to make its search data exclusive to Bing AI.
In a related news, Microsoft recently added powers of text-fed image generation to its Bing search called Bing Image Creator. This new AI tool basically allows users to generate images using words they enter to describe the image they want to see. This tool is powered by OpenAI’s image generation tool DALL-E.

With iOS 17 update, Apple may make shocking move, allow sideloading apps on iPhone - HT Tech
With reports claiming Apple is paying less attention to the iOS 17 update due to its focus on the upcoming MR headset, it is being said that the next iOS update is not going to bring major changes and features. However, this does not mean that the iOS 17 will not be worth the wait. Though the updates can be comparatively less when compared to iOS 16, it will enhance the functionality of your iPhone. And now, as per the latest details, iOS 17 may well allow sideloading apps on iPhone in what can be a shocking move by Apple.
So far, Apple's approach to security and privacy is to not allow sideloading in order to avoid malware on iPhones. Apple said, "Some have suggested that we should create ways for developers to distribute their apps outside of the App Store, through websites or third-party app stores, a process called 'sideloading'."
Apple added, "Allowing sideloading would degrade the security of the iOS platform and expose users to serious security risks not only on third-party app stores, but also on the App Store."
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is also preparing to allow alternative app stores on its iPhones and iPads, a part of a sweeping overhaul aimed at complying with European Union requirements coming in 2024. The report further informed that Apple's software engineering and services employees are working on a major push to open up key elements of Apple's platforms. As part of the changes, people will be able to download third-party software to their iPhone and iPad without using the company's App Store.
However, it is not yet known when these changes will go live. It can arrive with the release of iOS 17. Also, according to a report by the Indian Express, "There is also the possibility of Apple limiting the changes to the EU alone and keeping its current policy in all other regions."
When is iOS 17 release date?
There are reports claiming that the company will be rolling out iOS 17 in June 2023. Along with iOS 17, Apple is likely to release iPadOS 17, macOS 14, watchOS 10, and tvOS 17 at its annual developers conference WWDC. Here are the other updates that iOS 17 can bring to your iPhone.
1. Next-Generation CarPlay
Apple previewed the next generation of CarPlay at WWDC 2022, which will feature support for multiple displays, widgets, and integration with vehicle functions like the instrument cluster, climate controls, and FM radio. According to the report by MacRumors, "Apple said the first vehicles with support for the next-generation CarPlay experience will be announced in late 2023, and it's likely that the connected iPhone will require iOS 17 or later."
2. Headset Support
Apple can also announce AR/VR headset this year, and iOS 17 would likely include the support for the device before it launches.
Devices supporting iOS 17
Though there is no official information available regarding the list of iPhone models supporting iOS 17, it is being said that iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X may skip iOS 17. While, the users of iPhone models launched after 2017 will be able to enjoy the features and updates of iOS 17.

ChatGPT Is Down: OpenAI Reports Major Outages For ChatGPT And Labs Users - Search Engine Journal
OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Labs experienced an outage today. Mobile users report receiving the dreaded “ChatGPT is at capacity right now” message and its outage limerick. ChatGPT Plus subscribers can receive a subscriber login link, which would typically bypass any capacity issues. That option also appears to be broken.
Desktop users receive a link to the incident page for this outage, which shows OpenAI began investigating the issue at 9:41 a.m. PDT. They discovered the root cause of the issue and are working on a resolution.
The OpenAI Status page shows that in addition to ChatGPT, Labs is having an outage related to an underlying capacity failure. OpenAI is adding extra capacity to resolve this issue. Paid labs traffic has been restored, and they are working towards restoring free traffic.
DownDetector also has received thousands of reports from ChatGPT users about the outage, which began several hours ago.
ChatGPT Plus users are particularly frustrated because the premium pricing plan includes “General access to ChatGPT, even during peak times.”
Some users are turning to the OpenAI Playground while OpenAI resolves the issues with ChatGPT. It offers a chat mode (currently in beta) that can use your choice of GPT-3 or CODEX models.
New accounts receive an initial $18 credit for the OpenAI Playground. Once you reach your usage limits, you must pay for additional credits. Prices are per 1,000 tokens, where 1,000 tokens are equal to about 750 words. Pricing varies based on the language model and context needed.
ChatGPT users can subscribe to updates from the incidents page to be notified when OpenAI has resolved the issue by email and text. We will update the post as new information becomes available.
1:30 p.m. PDT:
- OpenAI is allowing some free traffic for Labs while investigating end-to-end request latency. They are also gradually rolling out a fix for some ChatGPT users as capacity allows.
- The login link for ChatGPT Plus users is working again for some users. When you log in, you will see the link to the incidents page, but you can continue to use ChatGPT.
2:30 p.m. PDT:
- ChatGPT service is restored, but conversation history may not be available. The status has been upgraded from a major outage to degraded performance for ChatGPT and a partial outage for Labs.
- OpenAI is rolling back a failed database migration that may have caused the Labs outage.

Apple’s Siri could soon get ChatGPT-like capability with natural language generation - The Indian Express
Apple introduced Siri, a personal virtual assistant back in 2011 along with the launch of the iPhone 4S. Since then, Apple has been incorporating and adding several new features and capabilities to Siri, and it is now available across Apple devices such as the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and even the Apple Watch.
When it comes to personal AI, especially generative AI, OpenAI’s ChatGPT is miles ahead of the competition. This has also made brands like Apple and even Google go back to the drawing board to reinvent their AI services, and Apple seems to be working on adding natural language generation capability to Siri says a report from 9to5Mac.
An AI service with natural language generation can create human-like content. Right now, Apple is said to be testing the more capable Siri on Apple TVs running on tvOS 16.4 beta and is trained to generate jokes and nothing else. In the coming days, we could expect Siri with natural language generation on devices such as iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
Again, depending on the device, Apple could limit the capabilities of Siri to deliver a seamless experience.
Unlike ChatGPT or GPT-4, which can generate textual content, Apple’s improved Siri will offer improved speech output, which is said to sound more “human” than ever. It is also speculated that Apple could limit this capability to Siri, and it might not be as capable as OpenAI’s GPT-4. As of now, there is no update from Apple regarding the rollout of this feature. However, Apple is likely to showcase the same at its upcoming WWDC 2023 developers conference.
