Reliance Jio AirFiber set to make its debut today: Features, price, connectivity, coverage, and other details here | Mint - Mint

Reliance Jio is going to launch Jio AirFiber, a wireless internet solution today, September 19. This service is intended for both homes and offices and offers impressive speeds of up to 1.5 Gbps, making it ideal for activities like high-definition video streaming, online gaming, and lag-free video conferencing.

The launch of Jio AirFiber on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi was announced by Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, during the 2023 Annual General Meeting on August 28. Jio AirFiber features parental controls, support for Wi-Fi 6, and an integrated security firewall.

Also read: Ganesh Chaturthi 2023: Mumbai bans buses, heavy vehicles on THESE days, stringent security measures in place

Jio AirFiber is set to tap into a massive untapped market of over 200 million Indian households. Jio AirFiber is expected to be competitively priced, estimated at around 6,000, possibly slightly higher due to the inclusion of a portable device unit.

Jio AirFiber distinguishes itself from Jio Fiber by utilising 5G technology to provide high-speed internet access.

Jio AirFiber is a Fixed Wireless Access solution that delivers high-speed connectivity of up to 1 Gbps to both homes and offices. It accommodates multiple devices, including smartphones, PCs, tablets, smart TVs, and set-top boxes, all while maintaining top-notch internet speed.

Also read: Reliance Jio, Retail record 65% jump in attrition in FY23

While Jio Fiber relies on wired fiber optic cables, Jio AirFiber takes a wireless approach, establishing direct connections between homes and offices through wireless signals. This eliminates the need for fiber cables and depends on clear line-of-sight communication with Jio towers. Jio AirFiber offers speeds of up to 1.5 Gbps, exceeding the 1 Gbps speed of Jio Fiber. However, the actual speed of Jio AirFiber can vary based on proximity to the nearest tower.

One key advantage of Jio AirFiber is its extensive coverage potential, as it doesn't rely on physical infrastructure limitations like Jio Fiber. It's designed to be a user-friendly plug-and-play solution.

iPhone 15 Series' New USB Type-C Port Supports Multiple Functions: All Details - Gadgets 360

iPhone 15 series was unveiled on September 12 at Apple's Wonderlust event. The lineup includes four models - iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Powered by Apple's in-house A16 Bionic and A17 Pro chips, the new iPhone models are claimed to offer a battery life of up to 29 hours. The handsets are currently available for pre-order in India while the official sale is set to start from September 22. The iPhone 15 series feature USB Type-C ports for the first time. Following are the functionalities that these ports support.

All iPhone 15 series models are able to charge AirPods, Apple Watch, or any other smaller gadget that supports USB Power Delivery, according to a support document released by Apple. The new iPhone variants can supply up to 4.5 watts of power to the devices being charged. In comparison to the Lightning port's 0.3 watts of output, the USB Type-C port claims to provide 15 times more power. Users may now power the majority of their accessories while on the go without a source of external power, according to the document.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro models support the USB 3.2 standard and according to the support document, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max can transport data at speeds of up to 10Gbit per second. However, the company only offers a USB 2-compatible cable in the box, which has a lower transfer speed. Users need to purchase the optional USB-3-compatible cable in order to transfer data at the fastest possible rates.

According to the document, the iPhone 15 series supports video mirroring at up to 4K 60Hz HDR films using the DisplayPort. Users who have a USB Type-C to DisplayPort cable that supports USB 3.1 speeds or above can mirror contents to an external monitor.

With a USB Type-C to HDMI adapter or cable, Apple additionally permits mirroring contents to an HDMI Display or TV. If the external monitor or TV supports it, Apple's USB Type-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter may show the material in HDR10 or Dolby Vision. Using a USB Type-C to USB Type-A connection, the USB Type-C connector can also connect the iPhone 15 series to vehicles that support CarPlay, the document adds.

The iPhone 15 gets USB-C, a redesigned Cybertruck surfaces and California considers banning AV trucks - TechCrunch

Hey, friendly people, and welcome to Week in Review (WiR), TechCrunch’s regular newsletter that aggregates the top tech news over the past few days. It’s our humble opinion that there’s no better place to get caught up on the industry’s happenings, whether you’re a news junkie or simply among the tech-curious.

In this edition of WiR, we cover Apple’s iPhone and other related announcements, the MGM hack and Tesla’s Cybertruck reemerging with an updated interior. Also on the agenda is payment processor Square facing an outage, California considering a ban on autonomous trucks and the tumultuous canning of supply chain startup Flexport’s CEO, former Amazon consumer chief Dave Clark.

If you haven’t already, sign up here to get WiR in your inbox every Saturday. Now, on to the news!

Most read

Apple unveils the iPhone 15: Apple had a jam-packed press conference on Tuesday, and among the highlights were two new iPhones: the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro. Both feature USB-C connectors, a move spurred in part by EU legislation. There are other new features, too, including a titanium body (on the Pro) and a haptic “action button” that replaces the mute switch on previous-gen iPhones.

Expanded iCloud storage plans: In other Apple news, the company announced during Tuesday’s presser that it’s adding 6 TB and 12 TB storage options to iCloud+, its cloud storage subscription. (Pricing wasn’t announced, unfortunately.) Amanda notes that, while the average consumer won’t need that much space, the new plans could be useful for photographers and filmmakers, who are set to get big camera upgrades with the iPhone 15.

USB 3 speeds on iPhone, with a catch: A major benefit of the iPhone 15 Pro is USB 3 speeds — file transfers up to 10 gigabits per second. But as Ivan reports, owners won’t get those out of the box. Apple’s shipping a USB 2.0 cable with a type-C port; users will have to use “an optional USB 3” cable to unlock the higher data speeds. But hey, at least the iPhone 15 Pro’s new “spatial video” mode won’t require any aftermarket accessories.

MGM’s big data breach: It’s been a bad week for casinos. Following reports that Caesars paid millions in ransom to a cybercrime group, hotel and casino giant MGM Resorts has confirmed a “cybersecurity issue” is to blame for an ongoing outage affecting systems at the company’s Las Vegas properties. According to reports on social media, the incident has led to outages impacting ATM cash dispensers and slot machines at MGM’s Las Vegas casinos, and forced hotel restaurants to accept cash-only payments.

Cybertruck gets a redesign: Tesla’s Cybertruck — the subject of frequent delays — has been spotted in the wild with an updated interior. New photos shared by Tesla watchers The Kilowatts depict a Cybertruck with what appears to be a different wheel and center console than what we saw back in May. But as Harri writes, it’s not clear whether this particular vehicle reflects how the Cybertruck will look once Tesla finally gets around to delivering them en masse.

Flexport strikes back: Two days after former Amazon executive Dave Clark’s abrupt departure as CEO of Flexport, Ryan Petersen, Flexport’s founder, said publicly that the company will rescind dozens of job offers and look to lease out office space as Flexport attempts to get costs under control and get “its house in order.”

California considers banning self-driving trucks: In a blow to the autonomous trucking industry, the California Senate passed a bill, AB 316, on Monday that requires a trained human safety operator to be present any time a self-driving, heavy-duty vehicle operates on public roads in the state — effectively banning fully autonomous trucks. Of course, AB 316 still needs to be signed by Governor Gavin Newsom before it becomes law, which isn’t a sure thing given Newsom’s reputation for being friendly to the tech industry.

Square outage resolved: If you didn’t catch it last week, Square restored its services after a daylong outage left small business owners unable to process payments. The Block-owned company had, up until last Friday morning on the U.S. West Coast, been battling a prolonged outage that had downed its services since the afternoon the day prior.

On this week’s episode of Found, meanwhile, the crew interviewed Jaleh Bisharat, the co-founder and CEO of NakedPoppy, an e-commerce site that helps people find the makeup shades best suited to them and offers a marketplace of “clean” natural beauty products. Bisharat talked about her personal journey toward launching the company after a long career working in marketing for companies such as Amazon and Eventbrite.

And Chain Reaction recapped a panel that Jacquelyn moderated live at the Avalanche House event that took place in Seoul, South Korea, during Korea Blockchain Week. The panel focused on the biggest opportunities and challenges facing web3 enterprise, featuring speakers like Dan Sun, the startup success manager for web3 APAC lead at Google Cloud, and Gagan Mac, the head of product and senior director of web3 services at Circle.

Antitrust and generative AI: The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is making the case for aggressive antitrust enforcement. How could this affect the market for generative AI? Two guest contributors from Perkins Cole, the international law firm, investigate.

Instacart’s sky-high valuation: Alex writes about Instacart’s IPO, noting that the startup could sell as much as $616 million of its stock — a total of 22 million shares. With a debut stock price at between $26 and $28 per share, Instacart will be close to “decacorn” status.

Fintech’s reckoning: Some fintech companies are weathering the macroeconomic storm better than others and seeing an end in sight. In particular, startups using AI to fight money laundering and fraud seem to be enjoying tailwinds, Anna reports.

Halloween Update for 'Amnesia: The Bunker' to Introduce Shell Shocked Mode - Bloody Disgusting

Those who have been enjoying Frictional Games’ Amnesia: The Bunker can expect a new Shell Shocked mode in the near future, according to Frictional Games’ Fredrik Olsson. Initially spotted by Rock Paper Shotgun, Olsson has been dropping hints on X/Twitter over the last little while for the new mode, which is expected just in time for Halloween.

In a series of posts on X, Olsson has revealed Shell Shocked mode to be part of the Halloween update for Amnesia: The Bunker. Shell Shocked mode will effectively remove all of the safeguards, including making the Admin Office safe rooms made of wood, and no longer pausing the game while you’re perusing your inventory. This of course leaves you vulnerable to the monster that’s in hot pursuit.

That’s not all. Shell Shocked will also crank up the randomizations with lockers, corpses, dog tags and bunker rats. This also includes some mission-critical lockers no longer being in Mission Storage, which will instead be randomly distributed in the bunker itself. Oh, and that also includes your pistol, which will now be moved to a randomly spawned location.

Olsson also dropped hints of the Custom mode, which will be added around the same time as Shell Shocked. This mode will allow players to fine-tune their experience, including enabling and disabling aspects of Shell Shocked. When asked when we could expect the Halloween update, Olsson stated the aim is to have the update out in “late October” before Halloween.

Amnesia: The Bunker is current available for the Xbox Series, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. And while you wait, check out Harrison’s recent article regarding the importance of snagging those collectible documents in the game if you’re a sucker for story.
