WhatsApp may soon let you share high-quality HD videos: Details - The Financial Express

Yes, WhatsApp videos are quite popular. WhatsApp is one of the most widely used messaging apps globally, with billions of users. It allows users to send not only text messages but also various forms of media, including photos, audio messages, and videos. While there are multiple reasons, WhatsApp’s easy-to-use interface and the ability to share videos quickly with contacts or groups have contributed majorly to its ever-growing popularity. Additionally, WhatsApp also supports features like video calling, which allows users to have face-to-face conversations with friends and family through video.  The chat app now plans to take things up a notch by introducing HD videos sharing to the platform.

WhatsApp recently introduced HD photos for beta testers and now a new report from WaBetaInfo suggests that chat app is working on HD videos sharing ability. Going by the report, WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.13.0.76 update which is available on the Testflight app, some users are seeing the option to send WhatsApp videos in HD quality.

The reports suggests that when you share videos on this platform, there is now an option to choose a higher quality version. However, even with this option, some compression is still applied to the video to reduce its file size for fast transfer of videos. This means that the original video quality cannot be preserved entirely. However, the high-quality option does improve the overall video quality compared to the standard option. By default, the platform always uses the standard quality option for videos. So, if you want to share a video with improved quality, you will have to manually select the high-quality option each time.

The videos shared in HD quality will be marked as a high-quality video in the conversation, and a new tag is automatically added to the message bubble to inform the receiver that the video was sent in HD quality. It is worth mentioning that this feature is not available when sharing videos on status updates. The feature is currently available to select audience but more people are expected to receive it over the coming days.

Meta’s Twitter competitor briefly appeared on Google Play store

San Francisco: Meta’s Twitter competitor, Threads, briefly appeared on the Google Play Store.

Alessandro Paluzzi, a developer who digs into app code to expose unreleased features, tweeted that Meta’s Twitter-like app had been released into the Google Play store, reports The Verge.

However, it seems that was a mistake, as the app is nowhere to be found now.

Paluzzi also shared screenshots that revealed the UI elements of the app, including the login screen, which lets users sign in with their Instagram accounts, and another screen that has a list of their followed accounts from Instagram, so that they can select who to follow on Threads.

According to the screenshots, Instagram’s Twitter-like blue checkmarks will also be available in the new application.

Since January, Threads has been under development at Meta under the name “Project 92.”

“We’ve been hearing from creators and public figures who are interested in having a platform that is sanely run, that they believe that they can trust and rely upon for distribution,” Meta chief product officer Chris Cox had said.

Cox also said that the new app would be “our response to Twitter”.

This application is the reason behind the anticipated showdown between Twitter-owner Elon Musk and Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Spotify to test full-length videos in app - BusinessLine

Spotify is considering adding full-length music videos to its app, allowing the music streaming platform to compete with TikTok and Alphabet Inc’s YouTube, a report by Bloomberg News revealed.

The feature would add to Spotify’s growing efforts to establish video — which in the streaming media era has tended to be more lucrative than audio — as a core part of its app.

The platform already allows musicians to upload “canvases,” or looping GIFs under 10 seconds long, that populate the screen while music plays.

Earlier this year, it debuted a feature called “clips,” which are videos shorter than 30 seconds designed to give artists a storytelling tool to communicate about their music, similar to how they might use TikTok.

Spotify, which did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment, currently allows artists to upload looping GIFs, that play when a music track is playing.

Spotify, comprising over 100,000 podcasts with videos, has begun talks with partners about the product, the report said.

Earlier this month, the streaming platform said it would cut 200 jobs from its podcast unit in its second round of layoffs, as it looks to restructure after years of heavy investment.

Excel's exciting June 2023 updates: Check these new features to boost your productivity - HT Tech

Microsoft Excel continues to be a powerhouse tool used in both business and personal settings, catering to data crunching, visualisation, testing, documentation, and planning needs. To stay at the forefront of user requirements, Microsoft consistently enhances Excel with new features. Let's take a closer look at the updates.

For Excel on the web, users can now save time with recommended formulas that pop up when typing the "=" symbol in the formula bar. Although limited to basic formulas like SUM, AVERAGE, COUNT, and others, this feature presents contextualised insights. Additionally, users working with data containing a pattern will benefit from formula suggestions for entire columns, offering dynamic formulas instead of static text, setting this apart from traditional Flash Fill. These functionalities are currently available to users with English as their primary language.

Visualisations in Excel for the web have received an upgrade, allowing users to format charts using the controls in Home Ribbon Formatting. Additionally, chart elements can be moved within the chart, allowing for greater customization options. A highly-requested feature, the Name Manager, has been reintroduced, allowing users to assign names to selected cell ranges easily.

For Excel on Windows, Current Channel and Monthly Enterprise Channel members can now leverage Office Scripts, enabling them to record actions and automate repetitive tasks. Furthermore, Current Channel customers can use Guided Reapply while co authoring an Excel file. This feature streamlines the process of handling interruptions during editing, providing the option to save a copy of pending changes or revert to previous versions.

Current Channel users also have access to "Feedback in Action (#FIA)" features, including Dynamic Arrays from the Get Data option in Power Query, Rapid Refresh for automatic refresh in shared workbooks during co-authoring (soon to support multi-workbook and Excel for Mac), and the ability to incorporate images and other data types within PivotTables.

Excel for Mac introduces three new capabilities based on user feedback. First, users can now generate Accessible PDFs, mirroring the functionality of the Win32 version. Second, an improved unified search experience helps Insiders find content across documents, commands, help articles, and Bing-powered web results. Lastly, support for images in PivotTables is now available for Excel for Mac Insiders.

As always, Microsoft welcomes feedback from Excel users regarding existing features and suggestions for new ones. The feedback portal is readily available for users to submit their input and contribute to the software's ongoing development.

Microsoft Shopping's New AI-Powered Tools in Bing and Edge - Analytics Insight

Microsoft

Microsoft is putting in efforts to enhance the user experience of shopping on Bing

The tech world is completely immersed in introducing new updates daily, especially concerning artificial intelligence (AI). Microsoft has announced new AI features. These include new AI-powered shopping tools for its Bing search and the Bing AI chatbot in the Edge sidebar. This new collection of features genuinely looks handy, even though many shopping features Microsoft has incorporated into Edge over the years differ from a user’s favorites.

The new tools help users to harness the power of AI “to make it easier to discover, research, and complete your purchase, all in one place with information you need from expert sources,” the tech giant said in a blog post on Thursday.

The ‘Buying Guide’ tells users what to look for in each category, offers product suggestions, and shows the specifications of multiple, similar items next to each other in a smart compare table so that users can quickly compare options without having to click around to various websites. This tool in Bing is available now in the US and will roll out to other markets over time. The Buying Guide in Edge has started rolling out globally.

“Our Price Match feature continues to work for you, even after your purchase, by monitoring the item’s price and assisting you in requesting a match if it drops,” the tech giant said.

Given that an entire ecosystem of sites focuses on these kinds of buying guides, it will be interesting to see how they will react to this change (and if Microsoft is doing this in Bing, Google and others will surely follow suit). Nobody will grieve the end of the low-quality, SEO-optimized shopping content you often find when you try to compare different products, but this has the potential to hurt legitimate editorial operations, too.

The new buying guides in Bing are now available in the US, and the worldwide rollout for buying guides in Edge is starting today.
