HomePod, HomePod Mini will support lossless audio in future - HT Tech

Apple recently announced that it will roll out support for lossless audio on Apple Music next month. It also announced that this service will be available to all Apple Music subscribers at the existing subscription rates. Now, the company has shared more details about this feature.

In a support document, Apple has confirmed that its HomePod and HomePod Mini will get support for lossless audio with an update in future. “HomePod and HomePod mini currently use AAC to ensure excellent audio quality. Support for lossless is coming in a future software update,” the company wrote on its support page.

However, the company didn’t clarify as to when it will roll out this feature or if users will need to connect two devices to get the desired effect.

In addition to this, the company also answered a bunch of other queries that you may have had about this feature. For instance, Apple said that Bluetooth connections don’t support lossless audio. This means that while AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max and Beats wireless headphones do offer a great sound quality, they do not feature support for this feature.

The good news, however, is that you can connect your iPhones to headphones to listen to the lossless audio on Apple Music. “The Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter is designed to transmit audio from the iPhone’s Lightning connector. It contains a digital-to-analog converter that supports up to 24-bit/48 kHz lossless audio,” the company added.
