PUBG Mobile was banned in India last September. It was later announced that an India-specific game called PUBG Mobile India would launch in the country. However, the name was retitled to Battlegrounds Mobile India earlier this month. As earlier reports have suggested, Krafton, the game’s developer, doesn’t want Battlegrounds Mobile India to be associated with the PUBG Mobile to keep the game from getting banned once again. However, it looks like Krafton hasn’t fully cut ties with PUBG Mobile in India. Let us have look.

As you can see, the link to Battlegrounds Mobile India on Google Play Store has “com.pubg.imobile” in it. The last part of the link to an app on the Google Play Store is known as the app package name. So, when you install Battlegrounds Mobile India on your phone, the game will create a root directory named “com.pubg.imobile”. Currently, there is no information if Krafton deliberately decided to use this package name or it had to do so to follow rules and regulations on the Google Play Store.

Some publications and experts are speculating that Krafton might have used the PUBG Mobile moniker for the package name to improve the search results (SEO) of the Battlegrounds Mobile India on Google and other search engines. If the SEO for the game is better, it could fetch more traffic to the app and thus improve the visibility of the game to the public. This, in turn, will bring more users to Battlegrounds Mobile India in the country.

It is also worth mentioning that before PUBG Mobile got banned in India, the link to the game on the Google Play Store had “com.pubg.krmobile” in it. The term “kr” would’ve meant Korea. The link to Battlegrounds Mobile India has “imobile” in it, where the letter “i” could mean India.

Whatever the case, Krafton is still using the PUBG Mobile moniker for Battlegrounds Mobile India and it clearly shows that both games are one and the same or at least reflects that the two games are related. Can Battlegrounds Mobile India get banned in India as its Google Play Store link mentions PUBG Mobile? Well, only time will tell.
