We learned last year that Twitter was planning to relaunch its verification program in January this year. That didn’t happen. But, there’s news now that states that it might make a comeback and Twitter might make its new self-served Verification Request from next week. Researcher Jane Manchun Wong tweeted that “multiple sources have told her that Twitter is ready to relaunch its verification program and she also shared a whole bunch of details about it including how it is going to work this time around and what type of accounts would be eligible to get that coveted blue tick.
Following controversies in the US, Twitter stated that they would label verified users in different categories to help people understand whether the account represents a government, a politician, a journalist, a content creator, etc. For now, only government accounts sport a different label from others.

As per the form shared by Wong, Twitter is going to ask you whether your account is of a company, an activist, an entertainment group, a journalist, a government official, or a professional sports entity, etc. You will also have to share your ID with Twitter and show your qualifications through Google Trends, Wikipedia articles, news coverage, or the official leadership website. And you have to upload a photo of your ID.
Additionally, Twitter is going to ask you to for some references of who you are, and then they might validate your account. Wong explains that the eligibility and qualification requirements for verification align with Twitter’s guidelines that you can check here.
If the verification program does relaunch next week, it will join the other new initiatives the platform has undertaken to make the user experience better including the introduction of Twitter Spaces, the Tip Jar, etc.
