WhatsApp will not limit app features for not accepting privacy policy - Gadgets Now

WhatsApp will not limit app features for not accepting privacy policy
WhatsApp users who haven’t accepted the app’s new privacy policy can heave a sigh of relief. The Facebook-owned messaging app has said that it will not limit functionality for those users who still haven’t accepted the new terms and conditions. In a statement to The Verge, a WhatsApp spokesperson said, “Given recent discussions with various authorities and privacy experts, we want to make clear that we will not limit the functionality of how WhatsApp works for those who have not yet accepted the update.” The spokesperson also said that this is something WhatsApp intends to stick with.

WhatsApp has clarified this on its official support page as well and noted, “No one will have their accounts deleted or lose functionality of WhatsApp on May 15th because of this update.”

The messaging app says that a majority of users have already accepted the privacy policy. While those who haven’t won’t face any action but get regular notifications about it. “We'll continue to display a notification in WhatsApp providing more information about the update and reminding those who haven’t had a chance to do so to review and accept,” said WhatsApp on its support page. It also stated that these reminders will not be “persistent and to limit the functionality of the app.”

For quite a few months now, there has been a lot of back and forth from WhatsApp regarding its privacy policy. Earlier this year, WhatsApp introduced a new privacy policy which had users up in arms. The instant messaging app postponed the date to May 15 as it saw some sort of an exodus to rival apps like Signal and Telegram.
