OnePlus survey hints at a new project powered by blockchain - Android Authority

The likes of Google Pay, PayPal, and Samsung have embraced cryptocurrency and/or blockchain functionality in recent times, and it looks like OnePlus is thinking about entering this arena too. In fact, it sounds like the manufacturer could be eyeing several projects in this field.

MySmartPrice spotted a survey titled “OnePlus Blockchain Research,” which was posted by OnePlus on its community forum, which revealed some thinking.

Topics covered by OnePlus in the questionnaire include whether you’ve ever invested in cryptocurrency, bought or created NFTs (non-fungible tokens), and whether you’ve bought second-hand phones. The firm also asks users what kind of “problems or inconvenience” they’ve had if they’ve indeed invested in cryptocurrency, bought or created NFTs, and/or bought second-hand devices.

It certainly sounds like the manufacturer is weighing up all its options before it proceeds with any blockchain-related developments. A cryptocurrency wallet seems like the most obvious feature it has in mind, allowing users to buy, sell, and hold various cryptocurrencies. This would see OnePlus join the likes of Samsung in offering this functionality.

But we’re quite intrigued by the company mentioning the sale of second-hand phones, as it sounds like OnePlus might use blockchain technology to make second-hand phone transactions easier. One theoretical possibility is that OnePlus creates a blockchain-based solution that allows someone to verify ownership of a device before buying it.
