Twitter starts taking applications for the verified blue badge after a brief pause - HT Tech

Twitter has started taking applications again for the verified blue tick. Twitter had paused the verification process last week just days after it relaunched for everyone. The pause was so Twitter could review the applications received so far which was probably more than anticipated by the team.

Twitter announced earlier today that users can now apply for the verified blue badge again. Verified users on Twitter have a blue tick on their profile indicating the authenticity of that account. It’s not surprising that Twitter was bombarded with a huge number of applications for the blue tick since that has been one highly requested feature for years.

Twitter reopened its verification system after a period of over three years. It had stopped taking verification requests in November 2017 as people interpreted the verified status as an indicator of importance or endorsement. Twitter relaunched its verification process last month, and said it reworked the entire system. It is now eligible for users from the government, companies, brands and organizations, news organizations and journalists, entertainment, sports and gaming, activists, organizers, and other influential individuals.

Twitter users who have applied for verification are required to have a complete account including a profile name, image and a confirmed email address or phone number. Also, these Twitter accounts must be active within the last six months and “have a record of adherence to the Twitter Rules.” Twitter users whose applications have been approved will see a blue badge on their profile. And those who haven’t can still reapply after a 30-day period.

Twitter said users can expect an emailed response within a few days but this could extend to a few weeks as well depending on the number of applications. Twitter also started automatically removing the verified badge from accounts that “no longer meet the updated criteria for verification, such as those that are inactive or incomplete.”
