Krafton, the creator of the banned online gaming app PUBG, launched the updated Battlegrounds Mobile India for Android users on Friday. The battle royale genre game was under beta testing until now with more than 40 million people signing up for the new avatar which caused a social media blitz ahead of its formal launch.

Krafton, the South Korean publisher of the game, addressed concerns over the transfer of user data to Chinese servers, asserting that the issue was fixed with the new update.

The early access to the game for beta testing to users was given on June 17 while pre-registration started from May 18, 2021.Nearly 20 million users were given access of the updated version of the game. The company has planned a series of launch events over the week which will allow players to win rewards. The key events for the Launch Week include Friends For Life, Journey to the TOP and various exchange events, where multiple achievements reward players with different gifts.

“This is just the beginning of a series of new content, collaborations and e-sports tournaments coming your way, and we will strive to ensure that our fans and community in India can fully enjoy the battlegrounds experiences,” said CH Kim, CEO of Krafton, Inc.

Unlike its predecessor, which was published by China’s Tencent in India, Battlegrounds Mobile India is created and published in India by Krafton. PUBG was among many apps banned by the Indian government in the aftermath of Galwan Valley clashes in eastern Ladakh.

Battlegrounds Mobile India is quite similar PUBG but with a few updates such as the removal of colour red to make it appear less violent. The new version will also get reminders to check their posture, the duration of playtime and constant reminders that it is virtual. However, players above the age of 18 can turn these features off.

Those with Apple devices expressed their disappointment as the game is yet to be launched on Apple iOS.

1. Go to Google Play Store on your Android smartphone.

2. Type 'Battlegrounds Mobile India' in the search bar of the Play Store.

3. Tap on the 'Install' button.
