Google Maps Dock to bottom feature to let users save select locations - HT Tech

A new feature called Google Maps Dock to bottom is likely to be rolled out soon. See how to benefit

Google has been consistently updating and upgrading its navigation services to enhance users’ experience. With thousands of businesses getting listed on Google every day, it has become tough to compare data of different locations precisely. Hence, a new feature, Google Maps Dock to Bottom, is being tested that will let users dock selected locations and businesses at the bottom of the page. As of now, the Google Maps app and the desktop site have only one information panel on the left side.

As per the reports, the docked items will also have a close button upon clicking which the dock will hide from the Google Maps page. However, it is yet to be clarified whether the button will arrive on smartphones or tablets, or it will remain exclusive to the Google Maps website. This dock feature will allow users to save numerous places to the bottom of the page to help them in organizing a trip. Users can also use this feature to dock a local business and multiple options that interest them and dig into the one that they prefer to go to later.

Though Google Maps Dock to Bottom feature will help searchers browse local listings and save them for later, it is still unclear whether the docked location will come and stay or even when.

Last month, the mapping app has additional features that include Area Busyness and Directories. The company said that this will help users to get info about the live busyness trends in their area of travelling and help them instantly spot when a part of town is near or at its busiest. The Directory tab will help users to navigate through large buildings or areas like airports, malls and transit stations around the world and find their way fast. It also provides users with information about a particular place like the floor of a particular store inside a mall.

Earlier this week, Google has even added the 'Track Prices' feature for Chrome to help users know about price drops on certain products that they wish to buy. This feature potentially reduces the need to frequently visit portals or refresh the page to see price changes.
