The OnePlus 10 Pro packs specs that are far more advanced than what the original OnePlus One offered. This highlights quite a monumental leap in progress for the brand, after close to a decade of never settling for anything less than top-grade hardware. The company's very first flagship phone, the OnePlus One, was launched back in 2014 and turned heads with its attractive entry-level price and unique Sandstone finish.
Starting at just $300, the OnePlus One offered a lot more than most flagship phones at the time, and for a lot less too. This included a larger screen, arguably better cameras, and a greeter battery capacity than the likes of competitors like the iPhone 6 or Samsung Galaxy S5. Sold at half the asking price of these phones, the OnePlus One was a self-proclaimed “flagship killer”. While OnePlus phones are no longer priced as cheaply as they used to be, the OnePlus 10 Pro still aims to deliver the highest standards in terms of hardware, which as per the brand, can continue performing at its peak for years to come.
Just how much has the OnePlus flagship lineup improved over the past eight years? Well, the OnePlus 10 Pro features a huge 6.7-inch Quad HD+ 120Hz display, up to 12GB of RAM, up to 256GB of storage, and is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. Its rear camera setup comprises 48-megapixel, 50-megapixel, and 8-megapixel sensors, and there's a 32-megapixel shooter in the front. The phone features a hefty 5,000 mAh battery. The OnePlus One's specs, on the other hand, included a 5.5-inch Full HD display, 3GB of RAM, up to 64GB of storage, and the Snapdragon 801 processor. It had a single 13MP Sony Exmor camera, a 5MP selfie camera, and an average-sized 3,000 mAh battery.
OnePlus 10 Pro Vs. OnePlus One: Biggest Changes
While the specifications have naturally progressed with advancements in technology, one of the biggest changes seen on recent OnePlus flagships is the brand's partnership with Hasselblad, the iconic Swedish camera brand that NASA used for its space missions. Another change is in the battery department, with the OnePlus 10 Pro not only featuring a beefier cell, but also ridiculously fast 80W USB-C charging, capable of topping it up from 0 to 100% in about 30 minutes. The phone also features 50W wireless charging, among the fastest in the world. Technology like this simply didn't exist back then.
When it comes to performance, the OnePlus 10 Pro's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor is eight generations ahead of the OnePlus One's chip, and in terms of performance upgrades, a whole lot has improved since then. The software on OnePlus phones has also evolved over the years. While the OnePlus One shipped with Cyanogen OS at launch, a forked version of Android, it later shifted to the OnePlus proprietary OxygenOS. The OnePlus 10 Pro still ships with OxygenOS, but after the merger with OPPO, the software is now based on ColorOS. Another big change has been OnePlus' sales strategy. The OnePlus One was sold via an exclusive invite system, while OnePlus now sells its phones online and in stores globally. However, all the upgrades that the OnePlus 10 Pro offers come at a cost. The reliable headphone jack seen on the OnePlus One has been removed, and the OnePlus 10 Pro price is nowhere close to the brand's original "flagship killer" persona.
