Realme Pad Mini Review: Surprisingly good for its price - HT Tech

Want a compact tablet for basic requirements? Considering Realme Pad Mini? Read the review to know how it fares.

Binge-watching or reading while traveling is something that sounds a bit difficult, especially when you like doing them on a big screen. Your mobile phone's screen is not that large while tablets with a big screen are not that easy to use in public places. A compact, portable tablet can be a perfect fit for the same. And the recently launched Realme Pad Mini can attract your attention in this regard. The Realme Pad Mini promises to offer powerful performance, long battery life, and much more -- all of it at a price that's much lesser than the smartphone you are using. After spending more than 2 weeks with the Pad Mini, here is what I have to say. Read the full review to know if it is worth investing.

Realme Pad Mini Design

The Realme Pad Mini gets an aluminum alloy body design and it looks premium and impressive, especially when compared to the other tablets in the affordable segment. However, Realme has opted for a minimalist design if you compare it with the other products being offered by the company. Though a bit heavy (372 grams), the tablet is slim (7.6mm)and is smudge-free. You can easily hold the tablet with a single hand, however, not for a much longer duration! The Pad Mini is portable for a tablet though and I believe it could be perfect companion for those daily commutes. Also Read: Realme GT 2 Pro Review: A Grand Experience

The Pad Mini is being offered with Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi + 4G variant. It also comes with an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. Overall, the Realme Pad Mini gets a tough build quality, and can comfortably sustain rugged usage.

Realme Pad Mini Display

The Pad Mini comes with an 8.7 inch WXGA+ LCD display. Realme has not provided the information regarding the peak brightness level, but during my usage, the Pad Mini offered optimal brightness when used indoors and at night. However, under the Sun it was a struggle to watch the screen. The colour reproduction and sharpness are decent for the price range at which it is being offered.

Realme Pad Mini Performance

Powered by a Unisoc T616 processor, running on Realme UI for Pad based on Android 11, the Pad Mini seemed okayish to me in terms of performance. Starting from the basics, the tablet is easy to unlock via facial recognition. The user interface is clean and easy to operate. However, the touch response is not that great.

Scrolling through social media, binge-watching, reading, among others were lag-free and enjoyable. Also, you will get a great-sound experience because of the stereo speakers, which makes listening to songs and watching movies fun. Coming to gaming, I played Subway Surfers and Candy Crush on the tablet. It handled light games with ease. However, as the tablet is a bit heavy, playing Subway Surfers or Temple Run among others can be a bit tricky holding the Pad Mini in your hands.

The camera performance of the Pad Mini was also fairly good. The images were clear and the colours were decent but not as good as a smartphone camera. The tablet does provide a decent camera output while on video calls, taking pictures, scanning documents, etc. Overall, the Realme Pad Mini offers a smooth experience, while performing basic tasks. However, playing games requiring heavy usage of graphics, heavy apps, among others may lead the tablet to struggle. Also Read: Realme GT Neo 3 150W Review: A THRILLING proposition!

Realme Pad Mini Battery

Equipped with 6400mAh Battery, the Pad Mini can easily last for 2-2.5 days with normal usage. Even if you use the tablet vigorously (like on the weekends), you will be provided with 1.5 days of battery life. The Pad Mini also comes with an 18W charger and even supports reverse charging. However, it takes almost two hours to charge from 10 percent to full. Yes, that's quite long!

Realme Pad Mini Verdict

With a starting price of Rs. 10,999 for Wi-Fi only variant and Rs. 12,999 for the Wi-Fi+4G variant, the Realme Pad Mini is a handy tablet meant for basic needs like binge-watching, reading, playing games, attending online classes, and some more. The tablet can be considered worth buying if you are looking for a compact tablet with good battery life and decent performance. However, if you want a tablet for heavy apps involving high-end graphics, office work, among others you will have to spend more for the bigger tablets.
