WhatsApp to block users from taking screenshot of these chats - HT Tech

WhatsApp is working on a new privacy feature that will block users from taking a screenhot of photos and videos shared as “View Once.”

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new privacy feature that will make the media files like photos and videos shared as “View Once” more secure. Whatsapp will restrict users from taking screenshots of the View Once media files. Though the View Once media files can be opened only once, users can take a screenshot of them. But once the new feature is rolled out, it will block users from taking a screenshot of the same. This way, the media file that you have shared with others will become more secure and safe. As per a report in WABetaInfo, the instant-messaging platform has rolled out the feature in WhatsApp update version 2.22.22.3 for Android beta as well as iOS beta users only.

It will give more controls to WhatsApp users on how they want their information received, shared and stored by others. As per the report, if someone attempts to take a screenshot of 'View Once' media, a notification saying "Can't take screenshots due to security policy," will be popped on the screen. Furthermore, even if someone will be able to record the screen or take a screenshot of the same, then it will appear blank or black.

The app had previously warned users to "only send photos or videos with 'View Once' feature enabled to trusted individuals” since the receivers could take a screenshot or screen recording of the media before it disappeared. However, with the new update, no one will be able to take screen grab or screen record the view once media.

Meanwhile, the app has introduced a new privacy feature that will let users choose who can see their online active status as well as restrict others from viewing their online active status. The new hide online status feature is currently available for Android beta users, reported WhatsApp development tracker WabetaInfo.
