Microsoft Shopping's New AI-Powered Tools in Bing and Edge - Analytics Insight

Microsoft

Microsoft is putting in efforts to enhance the user experience of shopping on Bing

The tech world is completely immersed in introducing new updates daily, especially concerning artificial intelligence (AI). Microsoft has announced new AI features. These include new AI-powered shopping tools for its Bing search and the Bing AI chatbot in the Edge sidebar. This new collection of features genuinely looks handy, even though many shopping features Microsoft has incorporated into Edge over the years differ from a user’s favorites.

The new tools help users to harness the power of AI “to make it easier to discover, research, and complete your purchase, all in one place with information you need from expert sources,” the tech giant said in a blog post on Thursday.

The ‘Buying Guide’ tells users what to look for in each category, offers product suggestions, and shows the specifications of multiple, similar items next to each other in a smart compare table so that users can quickly compare options without having to click around to various websites. This tool in Bing is available now in the US and will roll out to other markets over time. The Buying Guide in Edge has started rolling out globally.

“Our Price Match feature continues to work for you, even after your purchase, by monitoring the item’s price and assisting you in requesting a match if it drops,” the tech giant said.

Given that an entire ecosystem of sites focuses on these kinds of buying guides, it will be interesting to see how they will react to this change (and if Microsoft is doing this in Bing, Google and others will surely follow suit). Nobody will grieve the end of the low-quality, SEO-optimized shopping content you often find when you try to compare different products, but this has the potential to hurt legitimate editorial operations, too.

The new buying guides in Bing are now available in the US, and the worldwide rollout for buying guides in Edge is starting today.

Ahead of iPhone 15 launch Apple may launch new headphones - HT Tech

iPhone 15 launch is expected in September, 2023 and nothing else was expected before that. But, things seem to have changed as Apple may actually roll out a headphone well before that. According to reports, Apple is expected to release a new Beats Studio Pro wireless headphone next month.

This comes courtesy of a MacRumors report that is based on the details shared by Myke Hurley on the Apple-related podcast "Connected," which claims that Apple Beats Studio Pro wireless headphones may launch on July 19. Here is what you can expect from the upcoming Apple Beats headphones.

Apple Beats Studio Pro headphones specs leaked

As per the report, the Beats Studio Pro could be available in four colour options - Black, Navy, Sandstone, and Deep Brown. The leak suggests that the upcoming Apple headphones will have a similar design to Beats Studio 3. However, one of the biggest upgrades expected is the USB-C port, which will lead to the ditching of the micro-USB.

It may also get upgraded microphones, a new charging case, and some upgraded features such as Fast Pair, Find My Device, and more. Just like the Beats Studio 3, it will get a 3.5mm headphone jack, the report suggested. Apart from these, it may also feature better active noise cancellation (ANC).

Apple Beats Studio Pro expected price

The launch of the new Studio Pro has also been confirmed via reseller listing. The report suggests that it is expected to be launched priced at around €399 in Europe. It must be noted that it is the same price as the Studio 3. If the price remains the same, then it may well be launched at $349.95 in the US.

However, all of this is based on speculation and you will need to wait for the official launch of the Apple Beats Studio Pro, which will reveal the specs, features, and price.

Pink WhatsApp scam: How to protect your phone uninstall the app and control the damage - GQ India

Over the last few years, phishing attacks over the world have been on the rise. One recent example of a phishing campaign is the "Pink WhatsApp" scam. Phishing campaigns involve fraudulent attempts, such as sending fake emails and links, to deceive individuals into revealing sensitive information for malicious purposes. Phishing campaigns frequently disguise themselves as trusted organizations, such as banks, social media platforms, or government agencies.

Talking about the "Pink WhatsApp" scam, users will receive a link to a fake WhatsApp app disguised as an official update. Once you install the fake app, it will steal your personal data, including contact lists and financial information.

Pink WhatsApp scam: How to protect your phone, uninstall the app and control the damage

Pink WhatsApp – all you need to know

Pink WhatsApp claims to be a new version of WhatsApp with a pink theme. WhatsApp users have been reportedly getting links to download the Pink WhatsApp version. The link does change the colour of WhatsApp to pink, but a tweet by Mumbai police has confirmed that the link is malicious and nobody should click on it.

Once the malware is installed, it can compromise your WhatsApp account and access your personal data, including messages, contacts, and photos. Additionally, the malware may display unwanted advertisements on your phone. This is not the first time the Pink WhatsApp scam has occurred, as internet security researcher Rajshekhar Rajaharia exposed it in April 2021.

How to protect your phone from Pink WhatsApp

Legitimate updates for WhatsApp and other apps are always distributed only through Google Play Store for Android devices and the App Store for iOS devices. If you receive a message or link claiming to provide a new version of WhatsApp outside of these official platforms, it is a scam.

"The news about 'New Pink Look WhatsApp with extra features', which is recently doing rounds among WhatsApp users is a hoax which can lead to hacking of your mobile through malicious software. It is not an uncommon instance to see fraudsters come up with a variety of new tricks and ways to lure gullible users into falling into their trap to commit cyber fraud. It is for the users to be Aware, Alert, and Attentive to these kinds of frauds and remain safe and secure in the digital world,” Mumbai police shared in a tweet.

Twitter content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

In case you have already installed Pink WhatsApp

For those who were tempted to use a pink-themed WhatsApp and have already installed the fake version, you can still undo the damage. In a tweet, security researcher, Rajaharia, explained how.

Phone tracking LetMeSpy app hacked; thousands of users' location messages stolen - HT Tech

Some Android phone users just got the worst news! Their data has been stolen by hackers. A phone tracking app created to spy on people, known as LetMeSpy app, has been hacked The app has issued a security notice that cyber criminals have hacked its servers and stolen sensitive data, cybersecurity firm Bitdefender reported. On its website, LetMeSpy has informed that “On June 21, 2023, a security incident occurred involving obtaining unauthorized access to the data of website users.”

LetMeSpy app is a free mobile application for Android mobile phones. It tracks Calls, SMS, and GPS locations of the phone it is installed in. This program is very light and can be invisible to the user. The app's description says, "Just download the installation file and install the app on the phone you want to track. You can monitor tracked phone 24 hours/day from your computer on www.letmespy.com." Needless to say, it is tracking thousands of people with or without their knowledge, and that information is now in the hands of the hackers.

Is LetMeSpy app still a danger for Android users?

The company has disabled its services as soon as they learnt about the hack, the report confirmed. The information was first released by a Polish news company niebezpiecznik.pl, which received information from the attacker itself claiming to have acquired sensitive information to the spyware maker's domain.

Meanwhile, DDoSecrets which indexes leaked datasets in the public received a copy of the data that has been hacked from the LetMeSpy app, a TechCrunch report mentioned. The data includes vast information on call logs and text messages of the victims since 2013. According to the information, at least 13000 users' data has been compromised. Moreover, it also tracked more than 13400 location data of users. Based on the location data points, victims are majorly from the United States, Western Africa, and India.

What should Android users do?

  • The cybersecurity firm Bitdefender has suggested that you must be careful while downloading Android apps from third-party apps.
  • You should always download Android apps from official app stores such as Google Play Store.
  • You should keep your phone protected with anti-virus software to know the danger in a timely manner.
  • Keep updating your Android phone with the latest security patches.

After Google Microsoft Begins Testing Passkeys For Windows 11 Users; All You Need To Know - Jagran English

Microsoft has revealed that it is testing passkeys that will enable users to sign in to any website or application on Windows 11. Apple and Google were the first to implement passkeys for their services and devices, and now Microsoft has followed suit to make the sign-in process hassle-free and passwordless.

Users will be able to create and sign in using passkeys with the Windows Hello native experience by going to any app or website that supports passkeys, according to a Windows Insider blog post.

The company further stated in its blog that once the user creates a passkey, it can use Windows Hello which includes options like face lock, fingerprint, and Pin for the sign-in purpose. Further, the users can use their phones to complete the application login process, the company added to its blog post.

"We are offering users complete flexibility over how they manage the passkeys stored on their Windows device. They can now access and delete passkeys saved in Windows settings for their favourite apps/websites," the company said.

Microsoft also stated that Unicode Emoji 15, which began rolling out with Build 23475, is now accessible in the Dev Channel to all Windows Insiders.

Meanwhile, Google has announced that users can use passkeys in order to log in to their workspace accounts including Gmail, drive, and more, and even all the Android applications. Users can use options such as a fingerprint, a facial scan, or a screen lock PIN in order to sign in to their accounts.

However, the passwords and two-step verification process will still remain intact with the users as a security option as the company believes that it may take time to shift from passwords to passkeys.

Similarly, Apple has also announced passkeys for its iPhones, iPads, and other devices for a better, hassle-free, and faster sign-in approach.

Carl Pei's Nothing bags $96 million funding ahead of Phone (2) launch - Moneycontrol

What makes Indy run? For years, the obvious answer was Steven Spielberg, who, starting in 1981 with “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” guided Harrison Ford’s hunky anthropologist, Dr. Henry Walton Jones Jr., in and out of gnarly escapades and ripped shirts in four box-office behemoths. By the time Spielberg directed Ford in their last outing, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” (2008), Indy was in his late 50s and fans were speculating that the character was immortal, even if the franchise itself had begun running on fumes. As a longtime big Hollywood star and hitmaker, Ford had already achieved an immortality of a kind. Indy-ologists, though, were more focused on the eternal life that Indy might have been granted by the Holy Grail when he takes a healthy swig from it in his third outing, “The Last Crusade” (1989). It’s pretty clear from his newest venture, the overstuffed if not entirely charmless “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” that while Indy may not in fact be immortal, the brain trust overseeing this installment wishes he were. They haven’t simply brought the character back for another go, they have also given him a digital face-lift. The face-lift is as weird and distracting as this kind of digital plastic surgery tends to be, though your mileage will vary as will your philosophical objections to the idea that Ford needed to be de-aged to draw an audience, even for a 42-year-old franchise that’s now older than most North American moviegoers. The results don’t have the spooky emptiness of uncanny-valley faces. That said, the altered Indy is cognitively dissonant; I kept wondering what they’d done to — or perhaps with — Ford. It turns out that when he wasn’t getting body doubled, he was on set hitting his marks before his face was sent out to be digitally refreshed. The guy you’re familiar with eventually appears — with wrinkles and gray hair, though without a shirt or pants, huzzah — but first you need to get past the prolonged opener, which plays like a franchise highlight reel. These nods to the past are unsurprising for a series steeped in nostalgia. “Raiders” was created by Spielberg’s pal, George Lucas, who saw it as an homage to the serials that he’d loved as a kid. Lucas envisioned a hero along the lines of Humphrey Bogart in “Treasure of the Sierra Madre,” but with morals (more or less), while Spielberg was interested in making a Bond-style film without the hardware and gimmicks. As soon as the younger Indy appears in “Dial of Destiny,” it’s clear that the nostalgic love for old Hollywood that defined and shaped the original film has been supplanted by an equally powerful nostalgia for the series itself. That helps explain why this movie finds Indy once again battling Nazis, who make conveniently disposable villains for a movie banking on international sales. After directing “Schindler’s List” (1993), Spielberg expressed reluctance to make Nazis “Saturday-matinee villains,” as he once put it. The team here, by contrast, knows no such hesitation, even if evoking Spielberg’s films inevitably raises comparisons that do no one any favors, particularly the franchise’s new director, James Mangold. The movie opens in 1944 with Indy — wearing an enemy uniform as he did in “Raiders” — being held captive, a sack coyly obscuring his head while Nazi hordes scurry about. Once the sack comes off — ta-da! — the plot thickens with a mysterious antique (Ă  la “Raiders”), nods to the FĂŒhrer, the introduction of an Indy colleague (Toby Jones) and dastardly doings from a fanatic (Mads Mikkelsen, whose face has been similarly ironed out). There’s an explosion, a sprint to freedom, a zipping car, a zooming motorcycle (as in “The Last Crusade”) and a dash atop a moving train (ditto), a busy pileup that Mangold finesses with spatial coherency. Things improve once the story cuts to 1969 and Ford and his beautiful, lived-in, expressively alive face make their entrance, with Indy staggering awake wearing just boxer shorts, an intro that elicits chuckles, admiration and bittersweet feelings because Ford’s years are etched into every crease. After some more preliminaries, Indy finds his usual fast-paced groove with familiar friends, foes, narrative beats and action-flick clichĂ©s, including a gal pal, Helena Shaw (Phoebe Waller-Bridge, from “Fleabag”), who’s an ethically challenged wisenheimer. The script — by Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth, David Koepp and Mangold — keeps playing the greatest hits, at times nearly blow-for-blow, kiss-for-kiss. The story turns on the treasure, a prize that dates back several thousand years and, like time, just keeps slipping away. Pressed to retrieve it, Indy suits up — fedora, bullwhip, leather jacket, check, check and check — and he and Helena race around the globe chasing it while trading banter and, by turns, evading and fighting villains. For some reason, a grizzled Antonio Banderas pops in as a boat captain. At another point, Indy et al. land in Tangier, a setting that evokes “Raiders” and, uncomfortably, the scene in which Indy shoots a sword-wielding Arab, a death that Spielberg played for laughs and that distills that film’s breezy colonialist mindset. “Dial of Destiny” avoids such missteps simply by taking aim at Nazis. Indy and company still embark on breakneck chases in putatively exotic locations — including on tippy three-wheelers that careen through Tangier — but with less obvious collateral damage to the locals, if not their food stalls. Like all the action sequences here, this one drags on long enough to kill the fun. Mangold can do action. He’s best known for “Logan,” that rare comic-book movie that achieves a just-so balance between genre familiarity and novelty; he should be better known for “Ford v Ferrari,” a smart, nimble car story that underscores he can do one of the hardest things in film, which is to turn two people just talking to each other into cinema. The Indiana Jones series was customized for mass appeal, which doesn’t leave room for Mangold to do much, though at times he slows things down enough for Ford to shift rhythm. It’s hard to believe this or any other installment would have worked half as well without Ford, whose gruffly appealing, unthreatening (to women, importantly) masculine persona has always felt natural and unforced. No matter how outrageous Indy’s trouble, Ford’s persona and outwardly effortless charm — and his ability to drop that rakish smile for something darker, meaner, even threatening — have kept the character tethered to the real world of feelings and consequences. Lucas and Spielberg sketched a cartoon; Ford created a character. That character, or rather Ford, or really the two of them together are the main arguments for seeing “Dial of Destiny,” which is as silly as you expect and not altogether as successful as you may hope. Among other things, it takes a while to settle down. Everything seems overly strained, at least at first, including the pacing, the story and Waller-Bridge’s performance. It all improves as it continues, or maybe I just surrendered, yielding to the movie’s disposable pleasures, its yearning to entertain you, Mangold’s old-school classicism and, of course, Ford, who, as befits a Hollywood veteran confident enough to make a grand entrance in only his boxers, can still run away with a movie — and run and run — without breaking a sweat. — ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ Rated PG-13 for largely bloodless violence. Running time: 2 hours 34 minutes. In theaters. This article originally appeared in The New York Times. By Manohla Dargis | c.2023 The New York Times Company

Apple iOS 16.6 developer beta 4 for iPhones released ahead of iOS 17; know what's coming - HT Tech

With WWDC 2023 now in the rear window, Apple is shifting its focus to the upcoming iOS 17 update that will arrive with the iPhone 15 series. But before that, the Cupertino-based tech giant is gearing up to release one of the last iOS 16 updates. Apple has now rolled out iOS 16.6 Public Beta 4 to developers for testing purposes. Apple regularly releases updates to enhance the user experience by fixing bugs, improving features, and making refinements. But before the updates are pushed out to the public, they are first released to the developer community which tests the new features and improvements for performance and stability.

While it is not expected to bring any new features or major changes, the iOS 16.6 public beta 4 is said to focus on security improvements and bug fixes for the previous iOS version. Since it is just the developer beta of iOS 16.6 that has been rolled out, there is still a considerable amount of time before it will be rolled out to the public.

Previous update issues

When iOS 16.5 update was released, it brought along a plethora of issues that have been giving headaches to iPhone users. Apple Support Forums have been flooded with complaints related to poor battery life and phone heating up since the update. To fix these issues, Apple has quickly rolled out the iOS 16.5.1 update which fixes battery and heating problems on iPhones. Moreover, it also brings a fix for a crucial Zero-Click security issue in the WebKit and iOS 16 Kernel.

Not sure which
mobile to buy?

Shockingly, battery and heating-up issues have been common on iPhones ever since iOS 16 was released, and despite Apple releasing multiple patches with various fixes, the problems still persist in some capacity.

But with the iOS 17 update expected soon, we hope that all the new features, coupled with quality-of-life improvements bring joy to iPhone owners. However, those with iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X would need to upgrade to a newer device as Apple has dropped support for the aforementioned iPhones.

After Google Pixel battery drain issue pops up frustrated users take to Reddit to complain - HT Tech

Earlier this month, Google released a new update for Pixel smartphones where new features were added to the supported devices. The features brought the macro focus mode to videos for Pixel 7 Pro as well as added hands-free photos, new Google Assistant voices, and 3D wallpaper for other Pixel phones. However, the update has also created a new issue for some users who are reporting faster battery draining on their devices. Users have been complaining about the issue online, highlighting how the battery life has been massively compromised.

According to a report by 9to5Google, the issue popped up after the June 2023 update and has left some users frustrated. Battery draining issue is not new for Pixel smartphones, as earlier this year, a similar issue was reported. While that was fixed by rolling out a patch, the issue has again popped up.

Google Pixel smartphones suffer from battery drain issue

Netizens highlighted the issue in a Reddit thread, where a user said, “My battery has tanked in the last couple of days. Needs charged by the afternoon”. Another user said, “I use my phone for work and usage of it hasn't changed. My pixel 6 battery used to have 20% when plugging it when I went to bed. Now it seems to be at 15% at 6 PM”.

Not sure which
mobile to buy?

Needless to say, the issue has left users frustrated. Pixel smartphones have historically had issues with battery life. We pointed this out in our review of the Google Pixel 7 Pro and found that even with moderate usage, the smartphone went as low as 30 percent by the end of the day. We even spotted a significant overnight battery drain issue.

One good thing is that the issue does not seem to be universal and has affected only some users, the reason for which is not known at the moment. One user on the Reddit thread even claimed improvements in battery life. He said, “No issues here. I'm experiencing better battery life and less standby drain overnight”.

Apart from battery issues, some users have also reported smartphones running hotter than usual and a few bugs in the select text option.

For now, Google has not made a statement on this issue and we do not know if a patch will be provided soon. The June update itself was delayed by two weeks, and the next update is also likely to arrive by mid-July when the issue might be addressed.

Telegram gets Stories feature arriving in early July - Telangana Today

"More than half of all feature requests that we receive are related to Stories," Pavel Durov posted on his Telegram channel.

Telegram gets Stories feature, arriving in early July

San Francisco: Telegram Founder and CEO Pavel Durov on Tuesday introduced a new ‘Stories’ feature and said it will be available in early July.

“For years, our users have been asking us to implement Stories in Telegram. More than half of all feature requests that we receive are related to Stories,” Durov posted on his Telegram channel.

Users will be able to choose who can see their stories with granular precision — Everyone, only their contacts (with exceptions), a few selected contacts or a list of Close Friends.

Users will also be able to hide stories posted by any contact by moving them to the ‘Hidden’ list in the Contacts section instead of the main screen.

In addition to using photo and video-editing tools, users will be able to provide captions for their stories to add more context or links and tag other people.

“Building on the success of Telegram‘s Video Messages, we’re adding the option to post photos and videos taken by the front and the rear cameras simultaneously,” Durov said.

Moreover, users will have the ability to choose when a story expires– in six, 12, 24, or 48 hours– or if they want to permanently display stories on the profile page, with individual privacy settings for each.

“Speaking of channels, they will benefit from more exposure and subscribers: once we launch the ability to repost messages from channels to stories, going viral on Telegram will become a lot easier,” Durov added.

The company has plans to unveil four new iPhones, multiple iPads, MacBooks, and even more surprises.

Renowned Apple analyst Mark Gurman, in collaboration with Bloomberg, reveals the upcoming lineup. Apple’s September or October event is expected to introduce the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Max, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Additionally, rumors suggest the potential release of the highly anticipated iPhone 15 Ultra, Apple’s most luxurious smartphone yet. Codenamed N207, N208, and N210, the new Apple Watch Series 9 models will also make their debut alongside an updated version of the Ultra.

When it comes to iPads, Apple usually unveils new iPad Air models in the first half of the year, followed by iPad Pro launches in the second half. However, this year will bring a simultaneous release. Gurman discloses that the company will introduce a new iPad Air (codenamed J507) to replace the current M1-based model. Moreover, revamped iPad Pros with OLED screens (codenamed J717 and J720) are set to take the stage, offering significant updates compared to their predecessors.

Turning our attention to Macs, Apple has plans to launch a new MacBook Air, building upon the success of the recently released 15-inch version featuring the M2 SoC. Gurman’s insights suggest that the upcoming MacBook Air models (codenamed J613 and J615) will likely come equipped with the M3 SoC, Apple’s third-generation custom silicone chipset. Alongside them, we may witness the introduction of an M3 13-inch MacBook Pro, as well as M3 Pro and M3 Max 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros (codenamed J514 and J516). The report also mentions the potential unveiling of new iMacs (codenamed J433 and J434) sporting 24-inch and 30-inch screens.

In addition to these exciting releases, Apple is reportedly working on a range of other products, including the much-anticipated third-generation AirPods and innovative home equipment like smart displays. Furthermore, an upgraded Apple TV set-top box is in the works, boasting improved specifications. However, these particular products may not hit the market until later, possibly next year, or might remain in the internal testing phase and never reach the public. Gurman hints that the next-generation headsets might not arrive until 2025. Simultaneously, Apple is expected to unveil its long-awaited Apple Car.

As Apple enthusiasts eagerly await these forthcoming releases, the tech giant continues to innovate and cater to the evolving needs of its devoted user base.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 price leaked! Set to be more expensive than Galaxy Z Flip 4? - HT Tech

Samsung is on the verge of hosting its highly anticipated Galaxy Unpacked event, where you will likely see the launch of a pair of its foldable smartphones. Among these is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5. As we are nearing the launch, the leaks and rumours are boosting the excitement around these upcoming smartphones. So far, a lot has been reported about the display upgrade, cameras, and performance and now, the latest leak has shed light on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 price well ahead of launch. Here is how much it may cost.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 price leak

A report by TechManiacs has indicated that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 price may take a substantial leap compared to the price of the Flip 4 last year. The rumoured pricing for the new model stands at €1299 (around Rs. 116440) for an 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant. It must be noted that the Galaxy Z Flip 4's launch price for the same storage variant was set at €1099. That means it is expected to get an almost 20 percent price hike when compared to its previous avatar.

GSMArena report suggests that there may be a difference in price due to VAT, but that will not translate into more than €30-40 hike. However, the final price will be revealed during the Unpacked event, which is tipped to be held in the last week of July.

One of the most notable and talked about leaks is the cover display! Samsung is expected to upgrade the Z Flip 5 cover display to a whopping 3.4 inches. It will be a massive upgrade over the 1.9-inch cover display of the Galaxy Z Flip 4. Moreover, the new flip is expected to get an upgrade of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset that we have seen in the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Some leaks suggest that the next Galaxy Flip phone will have an IP58 rating.

YouTube's new AI-Powered tool enables automatic dubbing for video creators - HT Tech

YouTube has introduced a new tool that helps video creators translate their videos into different languages automatically. This tool uses AI, which stands for artificial intelligence, to do the translation. The announcement was made by YouTube at a conference called VidCon, TechCrunch reported. YouTube has partnered with a company called Aloud, which also uses AI to dub videos. Aloud is part of Google's in-house incubator called Area 120.

Earlier this year, YouTube added a feature that allows creators to have multiple audio tracks in different languages. This means creators can add dubbing to their videos so that people who speak other languages can understand them. By June 2023, creators have already dubbed more than 10,000 videos in over 70 languages.

Before this new tool, creators had to work with other companies that provide dubbing services. This could take a lot of time and money. However, with Aloud, creators can now dub their videos for free.

Aloud was created by Google in 2022. It uses AI to transcribe a video, translate it, and then create a dubbed version. Creators can check and edit the transcription before Aloud makes the dub.

YouTube is currently testing this tool with hundreds of creators. The Vice President of Creator Products at YouTube, Amjad Hanif, mentioned this to the audience at the conference. Hanif also said that YouTube will make this tool available to all creators soon. Right now, Aloud is only available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. But in the future, there will be more languages, such as Hindi and Bahasa Indonesian.

Hanif also mentioned that YouTube is working on making the translated audio tracks sound like the creator's voice. They want the dubbed version to have the same expression and lip movements as the original. YouTube confirmed to TechCrunch that they plan to use generative AI to add more features to Aloud, such as preserving the creator's voice, improving the transfer of emotions, and reanimating lip movements.

Good news for gamers! Microsoft vows to keep Call of Duty on Sony PlayStation consoles - HT Tech

A Microsoft Corp. executive vowed in court that after the company's $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard Inc. Call of Duty will remain available on rival Sony Corp's PlayStation devices, countering the US Federal Trade Commission's claim that the purchase would thwart competition in the console gaming market.

US District Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley on Friday asked Phil Spencer, who heads Microsoft Gaming, to confirm that Microsoft won't exclude the popular shooter game from consoles offered by its top competitor Sony.

Spencer raised his hand ceremoniously and said: “My commitment is, my testimony is, we will continue to ship future versions of Call of Duty on Sony's PlayStation. ” As long as Sony would allow that, he added. He also said that he would keep the game on future versions of the PlayStation.

Spencer is among Microsoft executives defending the planned purchase in a five-day court hearing that began Thursday. The FTC is seeking to temporarily halt the transaction while its legal challenge to the acquisition is pending. His promise under oath could hurt FTC's attempt to show that the deal would reduce competition in the console gaming market.

The blockbuster deal would vault Microsoft to the No. 3 position in the global games market after Tencent Holdings Ltd. and Sony. The deal that has a closure deadline of July 18 could be wrecked if Corley rules in the agency's favor.

Microsoft claims its incentive in buying Activision is to gain a foothold in the lucrative mobile gaming market. “This deal has nothing to do with increasing” Microsoft Xbox's share in the console market, Spencer testified. The executive who sported a dark gray suit and tie told the judge he plans to be in the courtroom during the entire hearing that's set to end June 29.

The FTC has also argued that the deal would hurt competition in markets for game subscriptions and games that can be streamed through cloud technology. Agency lawyer James Weingarten said in his opening statement Thursday that the deal had nothing to do with Microsoft trying to challenge Alphabet Inc.'s Google and Apple Inc. 's “duopoly” in the mobile market.

When questioned by Microsoft's attorney Beth Wilkinson, Spencer tried to convey the extent of Microsoft's interest in pursuing the mobile gaming market by divulging that the company made a bid for smartphone game maker Zynga. But Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. bought the Farmville creator, he said, referring to Take-Two's $11 billion acquisition of Zynga announced last year.

Spencer also revealed that the “impetus” behind Microsoft's $7.5 billion purchase of ZeniMax Media Inc. in 2020 was to stop the video game creator from offering its Starfield role-playing game exclusively to Sony's PlayStation. “We can't be in a position as a third-place console where we fall further behind on our content ownership,” he said.

Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella and Activision CEO Bobby Kotick are expected to testify before the hearing ends next week.

The case is Federal Trade Commission v. Microsoft Corp., 3:23-cv-02880, US District Court, Northern District of California (San Francisco).

i-Shock! iPhone SE 4 launch scrapped? Popular compact phone in trouble - HT Tech

The iPhone SE series has been a budget-friendly option for fans who don't want to pay the premium price that the iPhone flagship series commands. Last year, Apple introduced the iPhone SE 2022 (3rd Generation), presenting a more affordable alternative that retained the iPhone's iconic compact design. Nevertheless, the next iPhone SE 4 is highly anticipated to bring an array of new features and upgrades. That's what makes the wait quite worthwhile. iPhone SE 4 launch date was rumoured to be in 2024. However, this latest leak has some bad news for fans!

As per a report by MacRumors, the iPhone SE 4 is unlikely to launch in 2024. Analysts Blayne Curtis and Tom O'Malley from Barclays have expressed their belief that the probability of Apple launching a fourth-generation iPhone SE in 2024 is low, the report mentioned. Here is why.

iPhone SE 4 delayed?

According to a research note obtained by MacRumors, industry analysts have suggested that the next iPhone SE 4 is expected to be delayed, and this is being blamed on the the company's speculated in-house 5G modem. Of course, this delay could potentially favour the current iPhone modem supplier, Qualcomm.

Not sure which
mobile to buy?

Expected iPhone SE 4 specs and features

Several reports and leaks have indicated that the upcoming iPhone SE 4 may move away from the compact 4.7-inch display seen in the iPhone SE 3. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo earlier suggested that expectations are high for a larger 6.1-inch display, drawing inspiration from the design of the iPhone 14. Supporting this claim, several online renders have emerged.

Similar to the iPhone 14 Pro models, it is possible that the iPhone SE 4 will come equipped with an A16 Bionic chipset. Also, just like the iPhone SE 3, iPhone SE 4 will get 5G connectivity.

Notably, last year, there was even talk about scrapping the entire iPhone SE production line, but that seems to have died down. The reason was that no one is really buying compact phones anymore. That was also one of the reasons why the Mini iPhone failed to make it and instead was replaced by the mammoth iPhone 14 Plus.

Instagram now lets users download reels posted by others directly from the app - Technext

Instagram has introduced a new feature that enables users to download reels posted by other users and share them outside the app. This decision comes in response to the longstanding availability of a similar feature on its rival short video platform, TikTok. TikTok’s feature has gained popularity as it allows users to watch short videos with the app’s watermark even when not using the platform.

During an Instagram broadcast channel on Tuesday, the head of the company, Adam Mosseri, announced that users based in the United States now have the ability to download Reels directly to their camera roll. To accomplish this, users simply need to tap on the share icon and choose the download option.

Mosseri clarified that only reels from public accounts can be downloaded, and public account holders have the option to disable the download feature if they choose to. Although he did not explicitly mention whether downloaded Reels will have a watermark, a picture shared by him suggests that the downloaded videos will display an Instagram logo and the account name. This is reminiscent of TikTok’s approach, which also adds a watermark to downloaded videos in a similar format.

Instagram’s move to attract more users

In 2021, the platform made a significant decision to stop promoting videos with watermarks, particularly those from TikTok or any other platform. Similarly, last August, YouTube introduced a logo-based watermark on downloaded Shorts, their short video feature, in an effort to discourage cross-platform sharing. With Instagram now allowing users to download Reels, it could be seen as a strategic move to attract more viewers to engage with content directly on the platform.

The promotion of reels has been a key focus for Meta (formerly Facebook) in driving growth and revenue in recent quarters. During Meta’s Q1 2023 earnings call, Mark Zuckerberg highlighted that time spent on Instagram increased by 24% due to the implementation of AI-powered Reels recommendations. This indicates that reels has become a significant driver of user engagement and an integral part of Instagram’s strategy to capture and retain audience attention.

By enabling users to download and share reels, the platform aims to create an immersive viewing experience that encourages people to consume more content within the app. This move aligns with Meta’s goal of keeping users engaged on their platforms for longer periods, ultimately leading to increased revenue opportunities through advertising and other monetization strategies.

Keeping up with TikTok

Instagram has been actively striving to rival TikTok in the realm of short video applications. To counter TikTok’s surging popularity, Instagram introduced Reels in 2020. Reels is a feature that empowers users to produce and share 15-second videos embellished with music and various effects. The introduction of Reels was a direct response to TikTok’s widespread appeal within the market.

TikTok has been leading the short video app market for years, and Instagram’s move to allow users to download Reels could impact TikTok’s user base. TikTok has gained popularity by allowing people to watch short videos with the app’s watermark outside the platform. Instagram’s move could attract users who prefer to share videos without a watermark.

In recent years, short video apps have experienced an unprecedented surge in popularity, with TikTok emerging as the market leader. These apps offer users the ability to create and share short videos enriched with music and various effects, resulting in a highly engaging and entertaining experience. The widespread appeal of these apps transcends age groups, captivating users from diverse backgrounds.

How to download Instagram reels

  • Open Instagram and go to the reels you want to save.
  • Tap the share icon.
  • Select “Add to story.”
  • Zoom in on the Reels to fit the layout of your story.
  • Tap the three-dot button and select “Save.”
  • The Reels will be saved to your phone’s storage.

Microsoft Releases 1.3 Bn Parameter Language Model Outperforms LLaMa - Analytics India Magazine

Listen to this story

Large language models are getting smaller with great examples like LLaMa and Falcon. Now, Microsoft Research has upped the game with an even smaller model. phi-1 is a transformer based model with just 1.3 billion parameters.

The research paper titled, Textbooks Are All You Need, describes that the model was trained for just four days on 8 A100s with ‘textbook quality’ dataset from the internet with 6 billion tokens, along with synthetically generated textbooks from GPT-3.5 with 1 billion tokens.

Click here to read the paper. The model will be available on Hugging Face soon.

Despite being small in size, phi-1 attained 50.6% on HumanEval and 55.5% on MBPP. There is another even smaller model with just 350 million parameters called phi-1-small that is trained with the same pipeline as the larger one which still achieves 45% on HumanEval.

For comparison, any other model that achieves greater than 50% on HumanEval is 100 times bigger than this with a large dataset size.

Ronen Eldan, one of the co-authors of the paper said that using the textbook quality training data for coding, the results were better than they had anticipated.

In a discussion on HackerNews, a user explains that this would not have been possible without using high quality synthetic dataset that was produced by GPT-3.5. It is clear that training on data from GPT models improves the accuracy and efficiency of the models.

Instead of increasing the size of the model, by improving the quality of the data models are performing way better. This might result in a shift of paradigm in LLM research with focusing more on the architecture and training of models.

Similarly, an open source alternative to GPT-4, Orca, with just 13 billion parameters was also trained on data by GPT-4 and was able to outperform OpenAI’s offering on several benchmarks.

On the other hand, a recent paper – The Curse of Recursion – says that training on other LLMs data actually reduces the quality of output of the new model as it results in data poisoning. This is also called the false promise of imitating proprietary LLMs, as the model also inherits flaws from GPT based models.

Apple still has a lot of secret apps for Vision Pro in the works - AppleInsider

Tim Cook announces "One More Thing" -- the Apple Vision Pro

A new report claims that Apple Vision Pro was meant to be demoed with fitness apps, games, and even running Mac apps directly, but Apple only showed what little is working now.

When Apple unveiled its long-awaited Vision Pro headset, it did so with demonstrations of many apps and tools — but not the ones that were expected. Prior to launch, there were reports of gaming and fitness apps for the headset, and ones to do with health and wellness.

According to The Information, Apple chose not to include these and many more apps because they are simply not working yet. Vision Pro apps and functions said to have been either postponed or dropped completely include:

  • Tai Chi app
  • Nike workout
  • Yoga
  • Gaming where precision control is needed
  • Running Mac apps
  • Augmented or 3D Apple TV+ content

Much of the health or fitness functions are on pause because they rely on full-body tracking. The Information cites two unspecified sources who said the planned tracking isn't working.

The publication reports seeing screenshots of a Slack conversation in which Apple told developers that full-body tracking will be available when the device ships. It's a reason that the Vision Pro has two downward-facing cameras, so that it can, for instance, measure breathing by monitoring a user's chest.

As well as software applications, there have reportedly been hardware issues that have slowed down the development of the headset. Face cushions have been researched, for instance, as they could be better suited in high-intensity workouts, though it's not clear how they would have been used.

Similarly, the Vision Pro lacks what The Information calls "brow cams." It's claimed that the headset had been planned to more accurately depict a user's facial expressions, instead of Vision Pro only showing a CGI version of the user's eyes.

According to people cited as being former team members at Apple, fitness was was also removed from the demo because of other hardware concerns. Reportedly, the external battery pack was considered cumbersome, and the front glass of the headset is too fragile to survive a wearer bumping into walls.

Communication apps

One potentially significant omission from Apple's demo was a feature that is said to have been called "co-presence." This would have made it possible for the headset wearer to talk to someone far away, as if they were in the same room — but it required full-body tracking.

Nonetheless, if correct, this would have been Apple's answer to one of the criticisms of the Apple Vision Pro headset. People including Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg have accused Apple of trying to isolate headset wearers from the world, and people, around them.

The rumors of such features do fit with a previous claim that Apple was launching the Vision Pro sooner than its own engineers recommended.
